AT 489 stock tires and mud?
Greetings gang...long time no see!
I'm getting ready for the Duck/Goose season (the reason I bought my first Polaris last January) and I'm looking for opinions on the stocker Carlisle AT 489 tires that are on my 400. That's the quad that is going up north for the season so I can use the 500HO for a couple remaining Deer Hunts and Dune runs during the winter. The 400 will experience a fair amount of mud but I'm not "Mudding" with the machine, just going back and forth to the blind in level, soft muddy conditions. Are these 489's suitable for the task? Just curious what I can expect. TIA

they should be fine if u leave it in 4x4, even 2x4 would prolly be ok. my 489s on my tb always seemed to get good traction in mud. hardly ever got stuck in soft muddy fields. and u got a winch so u should be in good shape. but u can always use the excuse that they arnt good enough to get some heavy duty mudlites or something lol

I thought about going for Mudlites but I figured I could just switch the Badlands XTR's that are on the 500HO rather than spending any more money on tires. After buying the first Sportsman for this specific occasion and then a 500HO because I wanted another then club fees for a 2 seat Blind, 375 new Decoys and all the other things that go along with it, I figure if they'll work than I'll leave 'em. If I had to change 'em out I would too.

the stock 489's on my 400 are fine in the mud (although i will admit ive never ridden on a different tire, the 250's have them too, just smaller). Been through some really deep, thick mud, and havent gotten the 400 completely stuck... yet sad part is that i do try to get stuck... anyways, seem to have great traction in wet mud, but they do get clogged if its real sticky. if its bad enough, they pretty much turn into slicks and then u need a push to get out
