While the idea of a twin cylinder 700cc bike sounds nice...
Polaris has a LOT of hype up on the Sportsman 500 H.O. and all the updates like the steering post bushing and rod ends, ect... Do you REALLY expect them to come out with something that will kill the hype of the new Sportsman 500 H.O.? That would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. They are good at releasing machines and riding the "wave" they get from always being first... They will ride the Sportsman 500 H.O. thing for ATLEAST a year and a half.. maybe 2 years..
One other thing, Consider the weight of a twin? Width? The fact that NOTHING will interchange, thats an EXPENSIVE re-tooling process just to build one frame for the twin cylinder... Not saying its NOT gonna happen, but I feel like its still a ways off.... I think they are gonna wait until somebody trys to up the antie, then unload the Sportsman 700-750... And that aint happenin any time SOON!!

Hello thelaw I saw some pics of your honda 300 and I believe it had lockers on it, I bet that is a climbing beast, but must be a real hard steerer. I think you would be more than happy with the 500 you would get the 4 wheel pull you are use to without having that hard steering. As far as the 700 I think it will be out soon, I don't think it would be a real problem for Polaris to produce this bike with the 500 in its line up there is always going to be people who want the biggest ride available. Although there would be a tooling issue for Polaris I think they will go for it, it isn't like they will have to redesign everything.

Mudmachine,
I don't know about a 700, but a good friend at the local dealership went to the last Polaris show, and met the most knowledgable Polaris rep he had ever met in the last 15 years(this friend has been a polaris mechanic since Polaris' introduction, and is now a salesman). He said when asked about anything in the making, the guy just smiled from ear to ear. My friend thinks that the SP500HO was just a pacifier to ensure that the Rubicon didn't rock the boat, and that Polaris definitely has something major on the way. The rep also said that polaris tie rod ends were crap, but the fix is on the way.
The sp500ho really didn't require anything extra over the standard sp500, and that thing has been going strong for 4 years. It wouldn't surprise me any if Polaris has something up their sleeve.

And dont forget that polaris has now made the best
5 speed shift on the market. I don't think they will sit on that front either. Do you think the xpedition 425 and or 325 cc is going to be the last polaris shifter model. No way. A 625 cc ?-speed sounds like such a great idea that is must be, being worked on? and it might be polaris's best kept secret. I have no information, but it sure could be a great idea! - rangerchet
