Default Removing 400 engine from frame, couple questions

Anyone else have idling issues with these engines? This one has never idled since dad bought it with less than 200 miles on it. We did replace the main after noticing the one in there was for higher elevation but that didn't help. Don't know if it's in the carb, think so, or not.
Looks like Dave was paying attention to me

Default Removing 400 engine from frame, couple questions

The reason I'm taking the clutch off is I found a replacement bottom end but I'll have to use my own clutch.

I don't have a manual for this thing so can someone else give me the vitals to the carb ie main jet size, x turns out of air screw, etc.? All this for a 4,000 ft elevation.

I'm going to tear into the carb but not until I have the engine back into the quad.

Also, anyone know of any place where I could find a manual for a 94 400L 2wd besides the dealer?

Scrambler 123, he will have to pull both clutches to get the engine out easily, he might could go out the shifter side, but that would be more work than going out the clutch side. Remove both cluches and the rear clutch cover and it should come out the clutch side easily, besides If I remember correctly, the bolts holding the rear clutch cover on at the primary, are connected to the engine behind the primary clutch and only accessible after removal, only other way would be to pull secondary leaving the rear clutch cover attached and that would not be easy to maneuver. Each to his own I guess.

yeah your right NCScrambler,to get the inner clutch cover off the primary has to come off to access the 3 screws that hold the seal retainer bracket on..

You can use the old 3/4" trailer ball trick.Same thread size and pitch.

Yeh, I guess you could, it would just not be easy to work around that clutch cover, I think it would be easier to remove everything prior to the engine. But then, I assembled/unassembled forklifts for 10 years, so that could be part of my thinking, make it as simple as possible.

how does removing a part to take the motor out that doesnt need to come off make it more simple? my way of thinking is the least steps the simpler.
