Default Tire information....

Just some info, may not happen with all sets of mud tires of course and on all machines....

I have both 27" Mudlites and 27" 589s for my '05 700 EFI....

Both induce a slight wobble above 40 mph....

So, I took them and had them balanced. Well, they balanced, problem is that I watched them spin on the balancer and man these tires are out of round....

this isn't just coincidence....I watched all 8 tires and wheels being balanced, all of them don't spin very true.

I went out and rode the Mudlites, and they still wobble above 40 mph, haven't tried the 589s since balancing.

when i say 'out of round', the tires aren't that far off, just that they are built for mud/snow with huge lugs.

does anyone have any that work well above 40 mph? I'm adding progressive springs to the front of my Sportsman....I also have the 3.0 winch and brushguard on the front, so the added weight may be somewhat of a factor, but watching those tires spin on the balancer....wow...

elkbow, I don't have the 27's yet but I'm still running the stock badlands and they wobble slightly at higher speeds on packed or pavement. sorry to hear your tires don't spin true on the balancer. I do have a question for ya though, I am looking into gettin the 27" ITP mudlites or the mudzilla's. I know you had an 04 EFI before your 05 correct? did you have the 27's on the old one and if so did you have any problems with the 27's as far as rubbing or axle problems.

Prior to the '05 I had a 2000 500 Sportsman. So never experimented with the 27 inchers before.

when you look at the construction of these types of tires, I can see them causing wobbling at higher speeds, don't think they were meant for that. I can live with it, but would like an all-around 27" tire. I went with the Mudlites as the all-around and the 589's for winter riding. The mudlites tread is only about a 1/4" less deep than the 589's and they don't have full tread at the edges like the 589s.

If you are pure mudding, the 589 is the way to go. Since you can rock to one side and get the corners/edges to dig in when you are stuck.
