A-arm bushings
#1
Has anyone had problems with the a-arm bushings on your Polaris? My trailblazer has lost one. It is the long bushings, orange in color at the front and rear where the a-arm bolts to the frame.
I have to wait until tuesday to get one from the dealer, and that is if they have one in stock.
I bashed my a-arm hard enought to bend it some months ago. Then I went riding pretty hard friday, which I think finished the bushing off.
The a-arm is still bent slightly from the first incident. Do you think that this may have caused the bushing to fail? The toe in/out and camber of the wheel is still within limits despite the bent arm.
Any idea of the price on this bushing? A few dollars?

Lurch,
This happened to a guy I work with and the dealer told him he must have also hit something(most likely one of his kids) and that warrenty would not cover it. I believe it wound up costing him in the neighborhood of $15 installed. I would just recommend that you make sure the bracket for the a arm is straight and not putting the bushing in a bind.

Thanks for the advice. I will be putting the bushing in myself, so labor is not a concern. And my bike is out of warrentee now, so that is not a concern either. I will take a closer look at the whole setup, to see if it is binding at all. Thanks again.

Lurch there is a steel shaft that runs through the center of the A-arm. You should take the A-arm apart from the frame before you goto your dealer sometimes the shaft bends. Does the TB also have the brass spacers? If so there are atleast two styles make sure that you get the right ones. I think my dealer sold the full kit for @ $20.

I do have some experience on this one.
I hit a boulder the day after I got my Scrambler. The rod that goes through the A-arm bent pretty bad. Even shattered one of the brass spacers. Couldn't even find a piece of it.
I bought the rod, orange bushings and brass spacers, for I think it was 15 bucks.
Not a very diffficult repair. Take the rod out, put the bushings in the arm, grease up the rod and slide it in. You're lucky, you won't have that damned CV joint to worry about. For anyone with a 4x4 doing this, be careful not to pull the shaft out of the joint. Can be very bad if you don't get it back in place.

Hey guys, thanks for the help and tips. I broke down and bought the entire a-arm kit ($60) today and bolted it on. The shaft that goes inside the a-arm was also bent slightly, but noticably, at the end where the missing bushing was. I believe that was the cause of the bushing failure. The dealer threw the shaft in for free.
Now I will be looking into a nice set of sturdy a-arm guards.

Hey Lurch, if the Scrambler ones will fit...I sell you a set at 20% below regular dealer price. Bought them for my 500...but just cannot stomach adding the weight up there! (I'll trade the potential costs for the absence of that weight)

This might be too late, but don't forget to loctite the bolts as they sometimes work loose if you don't. New bolts might be a good idea, too. If you bent the a-arm & shaft, you might have put a hairline crack in one.

Good point. The kit I got did come with new bolts, and they already had loctite on them.
o2b4unc,
I will have to get back to you later this fall about the guards...if you will still have them. I am going on vacation the end of this month and won't be back for awhile.
