Default Sp500 Plow Question

Good morning all!!
I am about to buy a Ploris Glacier Plow System and have read many posts on plow blade widths. Many feel that a 48" blade will disappoint the user because when angled, the tires of the sp500 will track wider than the blade path. I looked at the dealers and it didn't appear that, at the angle position, that very much width was actually lost. I live in the "CITY" with a double lot and a large driveway and was wondering if a 60" blade would cause problems of it's own. Such as... tearing up grass on the sides of the 60" sidewalk, fitting tight into a pickup bed(if transport is desired), loss of manuverability(sp?). etc.
I have also noticed that the 48" blade is a "snow/dirt" and the 60" is snow only.
Any help here would certainly be appreciated. Have a great day.

Default Sp500 Plow Question

as a former owner of 2 Moose plows and a current owner of a Glacier 60", one obvious observation i make is blade height. the moose plow is much taller.
the taller the snow blade, the better. when you are pushing snow and all it's doing if flopping over the top of the blade, you may become frustrated.
i ordered the upper rubber snow deflector to try and give it more height.
just waiting for snow now to see how the new Glacier does!

sincerely,

Default Sp500 Plow Question

I must be ill informed. I made a plow for my Sportsman 500 out of a garden tractor plow. I made it 48" just for the fact I mostly plow sidewalks. I also plow a 100' double wide driveway. With it angled, I catch about 4" of snow with my rear tires but have no problem cleaning the drive. Here are pictures of it.

Default Sp500 Plow Question

I second 20045SP500HO thoughts, that looks really good wkayl. I have a question for you. Out of impulse, I picked up a brand new 48 inch Honda ATV blade this weekend at an auction for $115. It comes with the springs, rotating mount and quick disconnects. My driveway is only about 40 ft long, but I clean the driveways of a number of my neighbors when it snows heavy because they are older. I need to make a mount for my quad and I noticed that you run a metal square tube from the front back to the rear trailer hitch. What's the reason for that? Is it possible to to bolt the mount to the bottom of the quad? Thanks in advance. Also, bigjer, sorry to hijack your thread.

the fact I mostly plow sidewalks.
Bingo! That is exactly the reason I went with a 48" plow and I'm satisfied with it. The only thing I'm going to change is to add a weight bar. But as far as width, 48" is great for me.

Default Sp500 Plow Question

First question, is it hard to put on? It takes about 30 seconds to unhook but twice as long to hook up. The reason for it running all the way to the back, it was easy to build that way, has a ball already mounted to hook to, quick to hook on the back. I just drive over it and hook the ball. The front hinge has 1 pin to line up (hence twice the time as to unhook). I plow 3 driveways and about 8 blocks of sidewalks. It takes me about 20 min when there is about 5 inches of snow.

Default Sp500 Plow Question

Thats is a very good point wkayl. Why should I have the plow frame bolted all times on the quad. If you don't mind I think I'll borrow your idea and create a similar mount for my plow. Thanks.

No problem. I did a search on building a plow on the net and "borrowed" ideas from several places.

Default Sp500 Plow Question

You may consider a 54 inch blade. I do know that the 48's are ideal for sidewalks, especailly if you have sprinkler heads slightly above or grass etc.
good luck
