Default Questions about about a 300 Xpress

I bought new in 1996 a 300 Xpress. Its in excellant condition cause I only use it During Hunting Season so maybe 2-3 weeks a year. Acually I havent used it the last 4 years but did go out and start it to help keep the parts moving and battery charged. Ive acually used it a few times this year and still runs good. I have changed the rear light bumb a 1157.

My front lights work but the high beam lights dont. The light comes on the dash for Brights though. Ive took one of the bulbs out to buy a new one. Should a place like Auto zone or a auto place carry these bulbs?

Also I have always cleaned the air filter and changed the plug last year and also greese the tie-rods each year as needed. I havnt replaced any fluids. Ive thought about changing the fluids in the lower part of the motor? But dont have a good manual to follow.

Anything else I should check or suggestions?
Thanks!

It would be a good idea to change the transmission fluid. Even though it hasnt been used much, it has been in there a long time.

The main enemy of not using the machine of course is rust, so keep the chain lubed, keep all the grease points greased and you should be good.
Nice thing about a 2 stroke is there is no crankcase oil to worry about changing, you also have no counterbalancer fluid to change since it's only a 300.

Might be a good time to change the front hub fluid also. The trans and hub fluid from a polaris dealer shouldnt run you more than 10 dollars total.

Isn't the Xpress a 2WD? There's one for sale locally that I was thinking about taking a look at. The price is right.

A 500ho sportsman should do you pretty well, in my opinion I would stay away from the 400 sportsmans, they are too doggy for me........just a suggestion for you future shopping......

I would agree. The newer 400's (4stroke) are just not powerful enough for how much these things weigh.
Your express would be way quicker and more powerful, just lacking 4WD.
I would agree , if you go new, get a 500HO or above, or buy a used 400 2stroke machine with 4WD...

Our '00 sp500 non-ho still easily out powers and out runs the xpress 300. So dont think that you have to go big bore 4 stroke to go any faster. A 400 4 stroke sportsman would maybe be a touch slower than the 300xpress.

maddog.......Have you rode a 400sportsman?? They are doggy, I've never ridden an xpress, so I don't know........but I know the 400 sp and the 500sp are a totally different machine. The guy in our group with the 400 is the laughing stock of the group.
