I have a 98 polaris 400l sport the only mod's are a clutch kit and an exhaust. While i was riding this weekend and the oil injection went out on my quad. And i was wondering instead of replacing it can i just pre mix the oil with my gas. and if i can what should the mixtire be. Has any one done this before. Will it hurt anything if i premix my gas. Thanks for any info in advance

Pre-mixing will not hurt it, and can actually save the engine. Think about it, if the injector goes south, and you do not know about it, then the engine will not get oil and call it quits.
By mixing the oil, you will always be getting oil to the engine.
www.hpd-inc.com and www.hotseatperformance.com both have oil injector block off plates for your machine. You will also have to change the throttle cable. Putting the block off plate and cable on is very simple and takes about 1/2 hour total.
Pre-mix is cheap insurance.

I emailed Polaris about the ratio a few weeks ago. They recommend a 40:1 ratio.

buck619,

The 40:1 ratio is what they recommend during the first tank of break-in gas. I've used 50:1 with Bel Ray without adverse effects. If you want a good oil, you can't go wrong with Klotz Supertechniplate. It works great, is fairly cheap and smells pretty nice. I used Klotz many moons ago and forgot what a sweet smell it has.

I run Polaris Gold in my 97 400 Scrambler and it doesn't smoke much. Maybe you're confusing the fire smoke, for exhaust smoke! Just kidding. I spent 2 yrs at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, and loved living in Montana. In all seriousness, I'm sorry to hear about all the fires there. I hope the fires haven't got to you or yours.

I know people who disconnect the injection system on there Snowmachine as soon as the warranty runs out.I have seen a new V Max sled plow up just because it's cheap injector pump went to sleep, luckly it was still under warranty.

You can still use the Polaris Gold if you wish. Klotz is a good one as well. I prefer Amsoil myself. It is really your choice. As long as it is a name brand oil, you really can't go wrong.

2.56oz oil per gallon = 50:1 ratio. But you can round this off to 2.5oz and still be ok.
3.2oz per gallon = 40:1 ratio.

On the 4 gallon fuel tank on the scrambler add 10.25oz oil to the full tank for a 50:1 ratio.
12.8oz to a full tank to get 40:1.

Just remember it is better to mix the oil/gas in another tank first, then add it to the machine.

Lurch,

What is involved in blocking off the injection? On my Xplorer 400, there is a cover plate, and behind it resides the oil pump itself(I think). What all is removed from the machine, and which block off kit would you recommend? The one from Hot seat, or the one from HPD? Thanks in advance.
