Scrambler500!

Should I purchase a 1998 Scrambler 500 for $4000? It has a heavydudy front bumper, custom skid plate, and seems to me to be in good shape. Here's the QUESTION(s)>>>?
Can you buddies tell me some hints on what to look for on it? As far as what is prone to corrosion or breaking on the machine? Also, I ride in southern Ohio (noble county) and would like to know if a lack of low range is gonna hurt?
I'm only 14, and would like some friendly advice. I cant think how to word this any better but, THANKS IN ADVANCE AND THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO READ THIS. I Appriciate it. I am gonna try and talk him down to $3800 cash.

If it is a 98 it will be purple (only color available) it will be concentric drive and have the HO engine. I have a 98 purchased new $5600 out the door $4000 sounds pretty good if its in good shape.
Check the swing arm where the straps that hold the axle in are welded they are prone to crack there, check steering parts tie-rod ends, lower steering post bearing and brake pads. These are typical worn parts that are fairly costly to replace for someone of your age.
I cracked my swingarm the first year I had it then had it rewelded it`s been fine since.
I don`t miss the lack of low range. HTH
