My 98 Explorer has a loose steering problem. The hole steering neck will pull up and I think it is the nut on the bottom of the steering shaft. But I'm not shure.

Good helpful advice Jester. Why don't you go play in the Zuki or Honda forum.

Hoolio, Also ckeck the bushing at the base of the Shaft. These are not very good from the factory. If it is the problem, then consider one from HPD or Hot Seat. They make much better ones then the dealer can get you.
How much play in the shaft are we talking here?

Hoolio,

I think your problem is the plastic washers on the inside between the castle nut. I would replace the whole bushing anyways. They usually last a couple months at best.

Check the nut at the bottom of the steering shaft. Try tightening it up a little. Before you ride, be sure the steering is free. Sometimes it seems loose enough at or near straight, but when turned to lock, it gets tighter & may make handling difficult. This works better for up and down play than for a steering wiggle. Add a washer under the nut if you have to. If you can't get all the steering wiggle out of hte system before the shaft is so tight the steering is stiff, it is time for a new bushing. I would go with the aftermarket ones from Hot Seat or HPD unless the improved ones from the 01 models will fit. When you check for steering loosness, before you replace the bushing, be sure it is that rather than tie rod ends. Hope this helps.

Jester had me somewhat convinced that he grew out of his diapers and went on in life and got a real personality.

'I can see he messed in his diaper again''
