Well my new quad had about 125 miles on it when I pinned the throttle to the handle bar to see how fast the top end is. Black top road, rider weight + gear 400 pounds. Top speed on Eagle Explorer GPS was 59.7 mph. This top speed will only get faster with more break in time. You lighter people like Andy Bassham(150 pounds) will no doubt be going 60+ mph. I only kept the throttle open till the speedo stopped moving. If I held it down longer it might have broken 60mph but she is still new and needs more time to losen up. I wound up putting 251 miles on this weekend. I will be testing again after I change all the fluids out. More reports to follow. This is one awesome machine.

 

heck i hit 60 with my 99sp.you might want to check the jetting,someone in this forum said that his ho was jetted wrong and he got alot more power from it after the jet change,how much did ya give for it??

 

That sound right the best I can do is 55mph.

Re-read the post.

1. Odin said 59.7 on a GPS. (More accurate than the usual optomistic factory speedo.

2. The load on the quad was 400 lbs.

3. The mileage was only 125 heck, the machine isn't even broken in.

4. He said he didn't hold the throttle down and look for more speed.

5. Given the usual 6% factory error on the speedo that would translate to 64 MPH on the speedometer

Based upon the load, tightness of the drive-train and accuracy of the GPS I would say it did well for a first attempt.

 

Thors new Magnum only went 49 mph when new. I am talking about a 2000 1/2 model here. Now that his motor has 600 miles on the odometer his new top speed is 55 mph a 6 mile an hour increase. I talked to my mechanic and he told me the 500 motor dosn't losen up for about a 1,000 miles.

 

yea that was an impressive first run......i meant to say that to make sure the jetting was correct for elevation.some in here said they gained alot of more power threw jetting on their HO.

 

Thanks for the post Odin. Very informative at a time when folks are all wondering what this new HO will really do. That just makes me more fired up about getting one. Even if there is a mythical 700 waiting in the wing somewhere, I will be pleased enough with the HO for sure. Anything over 60 is major fast for a utility, and 60 is enough to roast most other utilities. The only ones now that could touch that would be the Explorer 400 and the Griz, and not all of them get clocked at that high. Thanks again.

 

hey andy,its sure tuff going to buy a new HO thinking that the 700 will be out shortly isnt it.buddy of mine has a grizz and his is about 60 on his speedo but thor says you cant beleive the speedo on stock machines,so i dont think we would have any problem outrunnin the grizz.i wonder how mich he gave for his HO????
