Default Sportsman weight?

The weight for the 2005 600,700, and 800 is 765#, and the 400/500 is 715#.

I was trying to remember when the 700 came out a few years ago. I thought Polaris made the frame bigger or stronger or something compared to the 500. Maybe the 400/500 have aluminum wheels and the 600/700/800 have steel. I don't know.

I'd like to know where the 50# is on the 600/700/800. Anyone know?
Also, does the 2005 700 have the clunking people talked about for the older models?

The King Quad is about 600# dry. Although people put the sportsman down for the weight, I think it's a good thing. I really would like to know where the extra 165# is in the sportsman compared to the King Quad. I love the sportsman, but I will be test driving a King Quad next week to see what the hype is all about.

Thanks for the help.

By the way, I can't wait to see shootout between the 800 and the rest.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

I believe that GE4x4 mentioned that the front end portection was very weak on the KQ compared to a Sportsman. Probably a lot of the weight comes from the heavyduty square tube steel frame as well as some of the tougher drivetrain components compared to the competition

look at the rims.... then look at the front half-shafts...then check out the gearbox... and then the frame... thats where the weight comes from

The weight difference is to see in the build of the two machines when you put them side-by-side. My friend has a Brute Force and when you compare against my '05 700 EFI its obvious. The Polaris frame is beefier, the suspension on the Polaris is sturdy and the machine is much bigger. It depends what you want the machine for, the KG is a good machine. I would say between the two, the Polaris is the workhorse....the KQ is a good all-around machine. The thing I like about the Polaris, it will keep up on the trails with any of the machines, even considering it is much heavier.

Like I said though, the King Quad is a nice machine though, can't go wrong with either one and I don't think there are many problems with the KQ, about the same as the Polaris machines...

I considered a new KQ along with the 700 EFI. I knew I was going to buy an EFI machine. My riding friends ride Polaris machines and it did sway my decision to buy the Sportsman. I looked at the KQ when it finally came in (had already bought the polaris) and I do not like the front end protection at all. There are other obvious areas where the weight difference shows such as CV shafts and frame. I think the KQ is OK it is just not as rugged as the polaris machine.

Thanks guys. I'll be sure to look carefully at the things you mentioned.

Anyone know what accounts for the 50# between the 600,700 and 800 and the 400 and 500 sportsman?

Thanks.

The 600, 700 and 800 all have the larger twin cylinder "Liberty" engine and the tranny/transaxle units are totally different than on the single cylinder 400 and 500 machines. I say that's most of the weight difference between the 600/700/800 class and the 400/500 class.

Good Luck, Bob

I read the article in dirtwheels on the king the brute and the sportsman and the article on the sportsman seemed more optomistic. I am not brand loyal I grew up on hondas I have had suzukis and yammis I have a sp 500 now and will add a800 to my collection

I agree, the 600/700 also has a slightly different frame. They all (sportsmans) have steel wheels, the BF and KQ have cheap stamped alum. wheels.
