Polaris Hub Fluid

When changing the fluid - do you drain the old fluid out through the hex screw or do you have to do more than that? When refilling - do you fill it with the hole @ 12 o'clock and fill it as full as you can?
I drained both wheels through the hex screw by putting the wheel at the 6 o'clock position and then filled them as full as I could at the 12 o'clock position and that seemed to cure the problem of the hub not wanting to disengage when going into reverse.
What are the consequences of it being overfilled if I filled at the 12 o'clock position? Did I drain them thoroughly enough by doing it like that?
My service manual is on the way but I'm an inpatient bugger!

The correct way,CanuckPT, is to:
Hub fill hole at 12 o'clock, fill to top with fluid, wait a few seconds there will be air bubbles, top up fluid again ! Now after a few seconds turn hub to 2 o'clock position (Clockwise for obvious reasons) till fluid stops running out.. install filler screw and your done!!!
P.S.... One more thing ... if no fluid comes out when at 2 o'clock position, the hub needs more fluid!!!!Repeat until fluid comes out at 2 o'clock position (not 2 o'clock in the morning) ha, ha!!!! Just a little humor from a fellow CANUCK!!!!!

You get a better drain and remove more contaminents if you remove the little black hub cap from the end of the hub. Remove the two phillups screws and twist/pry the cap off. It has an O ring, but is not threaded. If you over fill the fluid can build pressure when it gets heated and expand and cause seal leaks.

Even though it is a 2002, it only has about 98 miles on it. Do you think it'll be okay if I don't take the end caps off but do that the next time I change the hub fluid? I suspect that this has been the first time the fluid has even been looked at.

TrailDog,
I stand corrected, you are right,it is at the 4 or 8 o'clock position..... The guys' at the dealer told me it was 10 or 2 o'clock for refilling... The problem I'm having is when I fill it at the 2 o'clock, the seal starts to leak after the first few minuites of riding......Sounds a little like what FISHSLAB was talking about!!!!!! By the way seals are new and surface area on the knuckle is knick free ????
I will try today, and let you fellas know how it go's !!!!
