A friend of mine put his bike in reverse after a 40 mile ride. It went into gear fine but when he applied throttle it ground terribly but still moved the quad backwards albiet slowly. Is it possible to lose a gear in the tranny? or is it out of adjustment somehow? Any insite in to this problem would be great. Again forward works great reverse does not. He did not beat his bike at all. He backed off my trailer fine in the morning. Didnt touch reverse for 40 miles untill we went to put it back on the trailer. Then GGGGRRRRIIIINNNNDDDDD.

I would start by checking and adjusting the linkage. If that doesnt take care of it, then it sounds like it may be an internal problem. But, start with the linkage

 

These trannys have a bad habit of the snap ring holding the reverse gear in place coming loose or breaking.

 

sounds like the linkage might need adjusting.

sometimes they wont go all the way into gear.i have heard that noise too but it was just because i didnt have it all the way clicked into gear.
