Now that you made that clear I can tell you about both. The 500 is more low to mid range machine for tight nasty trails but does ok in fast conditions. The 400 does great in the fast conditions and ok in the technical stuff. The hop ups onthe 500 arent as numerous as the 400 but with the HO motor you dont rally need more power just better clutching to use the power. The mods for the 400 are too many to start with from a pipe and clutch kit to a complete stroker motor. But the 500 will go years with out a topend and if you get 2-3 yrs on a topend on a 400 you are doing good.I you get a 400 find out if it has a stock piston in it and if it does plan on a topend as soon as you get it so the piston doesnt break and ruin everything. Both are great machines but it depends on your likes as to 4stroke to 2stroke.Hope this helps you. Brad

Although I own a Grizzly now, (I know booo hisss)I've owned both a 400 and 500 Scrambler 4x4. The 500 is much better, lots of low grunt in the woods and plenty of get up and go in the straights. That and the sound of a moded 4 stroke is awesome.

yea, get a 4 stroke. 2 stroke's are faster but they don't last. had to rebuild my son's trailblaser twice this year what a pain in the ****.
he's 14 going to buy him a pred. next year and me a 800 efi.

What you doing wrong on the rebuilds? Not breaking them in right?our 2001 Trailblazer is on the first rebuild and did that only because I wanted to port it.

I hauled my 04 Scram up to Washington for the holidays, I had both my brothers ride it and if there was a Polaris dealer right there they would have bought, I cant compare it to the 400 but this should reflect the the 500 is a good enough quad to impress folks.

Dealer service has a lot to do with the one you deal with there are good dealers and there is jerks.Ask around before going to a dealer.as for warranty buy you a manual and keep it serviced and a warranty is a waist of $$$$$$
