I have not personaly seen a bad one, but I have heard of some going bad. Many people remove it and pre-mix the oil. It is cheap insurance against engine lube problems.

I had a 97 Express. In 99 the gasket between the carb & cylinder tore, letting the injection oil leak down the back of the engine rather than go into the engine. Siezed the crank, rod & piston. A real mess. When I stopped back the next day, the first thing the mechanic did was ask if I ever had the carb/reeds off. No, I hadn't. Good, he said & proceeded to call the factory guy. He told him what happened and said he blamed it on a factory error (not tightening the bolts properly, no loctite, or whatever) and the factory rep promised to make it right. To make a long story short, they offered to give me a factory-rebuile 400 engine, for just under $900, installed, running, with factory warranty! Either that or they offered me a sweet deal to trade for a new one. I called 2 other dealers, and found out they discounted the new one to the point that it was like trading while mine still had a good engine! That is why I now have a 99 Xplorer.
Don't know if this story belongs here, but I felt I needed to tell it. An atv out of warranty over a year with a manufaturing defect (that showed up after 5000 miles) and they stood behind it! Just my estimate, but I think the factory went about half with me. It really helped that the dealer stood with me & called the factory. Can't say enough good about Hilder Polaris in Central City Nebraska, or Mike & Rhonda who work there. Thanks for putting up with me & my story.

PS the pump was still pumping fine, but check periodically for oil leaks. If it isn't getting in the engine, it isn't doing any good!

No oil pump problems.

The more modified a two stroke is, the less durable it becomes. Changes in compression ratios, oversized pistons, porting etc. etc.

Premixing is usually encouraged by engine builders who want to eliminate all variables and encourage long engine life with their modifications. One way that they can do this is to recommend a premix of 40:1 or 32:1 thereby eliminating another variable which could possibly cause an engine failure.

Oil pump failure should be considered rare and of low concern on a stock machine. However... unprimed oil pumps are another thing.

Are you burning synthetic oil yet?
