Default Winch goes in but not out sometimes...

Alright the glacier plow is on and i'm ready for snow, except when i first start my 400 and try to lower the blade (power the winch out) nothing happens. It goes in fine first, but no out. The first time it happened, i turned key off then started again, all was good. i noticed that the solenoid or contacter doesn't click like it is supposed to when the winch doesnt work, so i've been knocking on it when the problem happens, and then it works (maybe just coincidence). My solenoid is mounted near the battery, so it is open to water and mud (dealer installed). Is this bad? Only thing that has changed is that it has been below freezing (about 25), and i've never run the winch when it was below 32 out before. COuld water have gotten in the solenoid and frozen it or somehting? Any help appreciated,
Tyler

go look at your machine and remove all power and ground cables and retighten them, making sure that you have good flat connections, that nothing is binding....if you have any other accessories on your battery and you have cables going there, make sure the winch is the bottom one and tighten the hell out of it.....i had a similar problem....if the contactor is not clicking, it may just not have the power....

It also just occurred to me that the dealer put in the heated handgrips... so i will definetly have to check those grounds.

Also ive noticed that it sometimes kicks back in if i rev the engine, maybe with heaters and lights on there isnt enough voltage to kick it over at idle.

Last question- my winch has the solenoid, as well as a little black box (maybe 1 x 1) strapped onto the battery bungee, between postive connection on battery and solenoid. I was thinking a fuse maybe? Not related to my problem, just been meaning to ask someone.

the little black box could be fuses....

i doubt the unit doesn't have enough power for the winch, i can almost guarantee you that your power or ground connections are not right.....tightening may not make a difference, you will have to see that the lugs are flat, that they are making a perfect connection and then tighten them down....should do the trick ....you will need to check at the solenoid and the battery....
