Well after all the looking I finally found and purchased a Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 2000 model. Well the first thing that I did was to strip it down to find out what would be needed to be replaced or repaired. So far what I have found is the following :- left & right outer tie-rods, lower steering bushing, chain, right CV boot come off but good CV, control lights( Neutral, Over temp, Reverse), starter to rebuild, rear tires. Looks like quite a lot but it’s fairly cheap since I do all my own work (I was a mechanic is my past life) and have never trusted any person to work on my stuff because I’ve seen some of the stuff that they do! Any how I will post some pictures when I have the thing back in one piece and then happy days. have fun!!
You take a good approach to a used bike. Strip it down and make some assessments. Saves money in the long run,,,and aquaints you with your bike. I wish more people thought like you.
good idea to get a service manual for that thing
you will like the scrammy,,,we do!!
I must do my own work also.

Congrats! I work on my own stuff too. I figure if It's broke I can't make it worse. If I have to take it to the mechanic I may have done some of the grunt work for him so it's cheaper and when he discusses problems with me I can understand exactlly what he's talking about. Plus I know if someone is trying to pull a fast one on me.
Well I estimate that all the parts to repair the Polaris will cost about $150-$200. Now I'm also putting some new tires on since the tires on it right now are worn and not very good. The cost of those from Trax-Motors are $200 for the full set. These are Kenda Bear Claws. I'm just waiting for the parts to come in but I have changed my rear tires to the new ones already since I've purchased a tire bead breaker & changer stand so with the tires added the cost of parts is about $350 - $400 and the Polaris cost me $2700 so I'm looking at a total of $3050 - $3100. You'll love the scrammy! One of the best do-it-all quads! but ya, I own a 2000 and I love it..sep for the starter went bad so I have to repair that. but I'm like you. I am the only one that touches my four wheeler. Saves money, you can trust yourself, and you can learn alot of things about your new toy by working on it. Have fun with the scrammy!!
