Better rear breaks for the scrammy??
#1
I don't know about you other scrambler owners. but I have a 500 4x4 and I must say that the rear breaks suck. When I first bought the machine.. the break pads were wore. So I replaced them then later I replaced the master brake cylinder and bled the lines and all of that. Anyways, I have to say that my rear brakes are useless. I have like 10% stopping power. I'm stuck with using my front handlebar brake since thats the only one that can slow me down. Last big ride was in Hatfield McCoy and going down the side of a mountain without good rear brakes wasn't fun.. You guys have any ideas how I can actually get some stopping power in the rear???

What year Scrambler is it? The rear brakes do suck and I don't think there really is anything to do about it. The 2005 Scramblers have the Predator rear brake caliper but I do not know it that improved braking or not.

If you are referring to using the rear brake pedal it could just need a bleeding. That one is for emergency only, it wasn't meant to be used regularly. The brake lever does both front and rear. If you use the rear brake pedal a lot it does wear the pads down quick. Mine rear brakes worked great and now the rear pedal got soft. All I did was bleed it and they are fine now. I think of it as the e-brake on a car. Use it only if you need it, or on nice icy conditions when you want to play.

i use my rear brake pedal all the time,my hand brake only controls the front brakes and the pedal controls the back..the ebc brake setup is the only way to go imo..mt pads are over a year old and still look and work like new..

Cool, learn something new every day. I thought even the older ones were set up with the handbrake contoling both front and rear.
With my 00' sportsman the handbrake is set up to control both, and the pedal only controls the rear. I replaced the pads for the first time this year!

your right, all the scramblers have the lever that controls the front and rear at the same time.i blocked off the line so my lever only controls the front and the pedal controls the rear..
