That is right. Did I say it the other way around? The 34mm has a bigger needle therfore it has a smaller pilot. I think I said it wrong in your PM.

Default quetion on pilot jet operation???

I have tried switching every jet and needle from the 30mm to the 34mm. Then i just tried everything from the 34mm except changed the main jet. I think every thing from the 34mm carb worked better. Just go with a smaller main and 1 size bigger on the pilot. Like I said it is hard to tune but if you have the patience and time you should get it close. I did not have much patience with it. Thats why I went with the flatslide carb.

All the parts needed from the 30mm carb and parts to make the 34mm work.

needle jet and needle (from 30mm carb)
brass choke fitting (from 30mm carb)
maybe pilot jet #40 or try the #35 from 34mm carb.
and start with 180 main jet

This should get you real close.
You can take some dish soap and put it around the carb and inside where the airfilter mounts and the filter should slide right in. Same with the manifold side.
