Default Predator (05) 500 Engine Noise

After returning from a ride this weekend I noticed a loose rattling noise coming from the right side of my motor. Could have been the Cam Chain or perhaps valves. I wasn’t sure if this was normal and I just hadn’t noticed it until then or if it’s a problem. A buddy I ride with also noticed it sounded different. It seemed to run fine so we went for another ride, it was running as strong as ever. After returning the noise didn’t seem as loud however, it still seemed noisier than what I thought it should be (more noise than the Z400). The quad has about 5-7 hours on it . Could this be part of break-in? Is this something I should worry about?

Isn't it under warranty? Let the dealer figure it out, if he has knowledgeable guys there

check the bolts on the front fender support bar. My 05 had a loose one causing a rattle which sounded like it was coming from the engine.

Yes it is under warranty and I did consider bringing it in however, I like to avoid service shops except when absolutely necessary. I don’t have any experience with Polaris service shops in my area (50 miles is closest) but my experience with other shops doing warranty work typically goes something like this:

I bring the bike in, they keep it for 3 – 4 weeks before they look at it.
If the problem is not obvious they say they couldn’t find a problem.
I get the bike back and it has the same problem!
I bring it back and wait another 3-4 weeks.
Again they give it back, no problem found.
I give up and ride it as is.
Two weeks after the warranty runs out there is a major failure due to the original problem.
Now it’s up to me to fix or pay major $$$ for repair.

I guess what I want to know is if the Predator motors are typically noisy (Cam Chain / valve noise) if not, and mine is, your right I should bring it in. If the noise is typical I would like to avoid the frustration.

Yeah, I hear ya. That's why I made the comment about "if he has knowledgeable guys there". I could ruin the rest of my day if I told you about my episode at 2 Yamaha dealers and re-building a 2 stroke. They couldn't bore and hone a cylinder to tolerance if their lives depended on it. Then give it back to you and say it's "OK to be .010" out of tolerance". I get PO'd just remembering that

Mine did the same thing, I went and checked all bolts and nuts on the motor and frame.

Frame........yes, I check them very often, they come loose often too..............engine, I don't check them, other than by eye........ are you supposed to check them(tighten)?? Do they have thread lock on them?? If so, you don't want to put a wrench on them do ya, for it might break the thread lock.........just a thought.......
