Default 2x4 with IRS

I was just reading the post on 2x4 vs 4x4 and the need for 4x4. It got me to thinking about a 2x4 with IRS.

I used to have a 1988 Trail Boss 250 and although it would go 90% of the places I can go with my Sportsman I have really come to appreciate the IRS. I love the improved ability/stability over rough terrain and being able to straddle obsticles (protruding rocks) without any worry of wacking the axle skid plate. I ride trails with tree roots and big rocks in the trails.

I was thinking a 2x4 with IRS might be a really nice setup for riding aggressive terrain. Maybe even give it an adjustable anti-roll bar.

How about a Trailblazer 500 HO with IRS ???

The only 2x4 with IRS that is fun to ride is the outlander 400 2x4. Its kinda
fast and I love that IRS. Its not like the IRS on a polaris, its like a VW Baja
bug. A trailing design.

Hello Backinthesaddleagain. Thats a very good question. For rough terrain, the articulation would probably be great. Not sure about the aggresive aspect. Seems that the straight axle might be more stable in the corners. After all, the reason for adding a sway bar is to reduce the roll, which actually reduces the articulation. The 500 Ho would be nice but the 800 EFI would be awesome.

HIPPY, I too like the suspension design of the Outlanders. I like it because of its simplicity and its inherent design durability. Likewise, I prefer the Strut front end of the Polaris and Bombs for the same reason.

Have a good day.
