Default 700EFI w/ no power

Okay everyone, I need your suggestions. I have an 04.5 Sp 700 EFI with 40 hours and 280 miles on it. I went out to ride yesterday and The thing idled, but somewhat rough. I took it for a spin around the yard and it did not have any giddy-up at all. I could putz around okay, but when I jumped on the throttle it would not respond. I checked out the throttle cable and the air filter. I am going to check the fuel filter or the spark plug I guess. Could these be the problem on a machine this new? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like it went into limp home mode. There is a loose connection or bare wire somewhere that the computer sees and limets engine rpm and stuff. You can check codes by turning the key on and off 3 times and it will give you a blink code. Check your owners manual for how to decipher the blink. I know the service manual has it, not sure about the owners manual.
I saw this once and it turned out to be a wire that rubbed bare a few inches from the air temp sensor rubbing on the frame.

Charlie is right, the EFI is setup that if the fuel injection (computer) fails, it will still run, just not very good....

there are several possibilities....a loose connection as Charlie stated....but your fuel filter is also suspect, especially on new machines where there was possibly crap in the tank....replace your filter, I doubt the spark plug is the problem......

your easiest bet may be to take it to your dealer, but a quick check of all the connections is the first step....

I have a stupid question. I often see folks referring to there Polaris ATV as a 2004.5. Why? Did they change the design half way though the model year?

Thanks again

This is very frustrating. It seems more than alot of people are complaining about this problem with the Polaris machines.

I have friends who are experiencing this problem as well.

Makes me not want to get a polaris... Is polaris doing anything to remedy these types of problems.

I have a buddy that has a Suzuki KQ and he never has any problems with it remotely like the Polaris does.
