Default 04' Mossy camo Twin 700 EFI <NEWBIE QUESTION>

Hello all. Ive been reading the forums and reviews lately on diffferent atv's and decided on a Suziki King Quad.

But.....today a friend called that buys repos from a bank and said he got a 2004 Polaris 700 Twin ,Mossy camo color, with a warn winch and 4 hours on it for sale.
He said the bike was new, other than a few scratches on the fender. He said it also had some added "racks" on the front and rear. Not sure if he has the stock racks confused with aftermarket ones or what.

Hes asking $5,400 for it and it has a 2006 cal off road tag, clean title, etc.

I called some local polaris dealers here in california and I found one that had a 2004 still in stock with efi, he wanted $7,200. not sure of the color.

My question is, ive researched the 04 700 on here and saw some issues with the fuel pump. My questions are:

1) Is this a great deal on this or just ok? I know im not getting screwed but If its just a good deal id rather pass and get the Suzuki KQ.

2) what kind of factory warranty does this have, if any? Ive read on here you can get extended warranties on ebay but im more concerned if it has any warranty from the factory, especially since ill be the second owner.

3) is the suspension on the 05 really "10 times better than the 04" as a previous poster stated? If so, could a guy put 05 shocks on the o4?

Thanks for any replies.

-Geoff

A few things. They might not be the answers your looking for but here goes.

1. You mention Camo edition EFI. I doubt its EFI, polaris website only has a 700 Twin (carb) in CAMO listed.

2. Retail for a used Camo 700 (2004) is $5715 according to KBB. So the price is decent, you'd be ahead compared to buying it from a dealer. You have to figure your $315 ahead of a dealer plus the winch ($400 value) and if there's anything else on it. Best thing I can say is check it out and maybe try to get another $100-200 off it.

3. Factory warranty is 6months. My guess is that its probably up. As far as the aftermarkets go, I've heard nothing but bad.

4. The 05 suspension is alot better, 10x I dont know, but its better. I dont think its a simple matter of changing shocks, there were frame changes and a wider track on the 05.

repos are always abused. it's very difficult to scratch camo, i know, i've owned one.

a "deal" is not paying avg ret in KBB.

offer $4500. that's a fair deal for a repo. a bank will send it to an auction where wholesalers bid. the bank will be lucky to get $3500 for it at the auction. then they have to pay a seller's fee as well. you can bet they'll take the highest bid to.

will it have a clean title or will it be branded "repo" like automobiles?

BTW, a carb 700 is a pig on gas. an EFI700 is the only way to go. (unless of course you own a lot of stock in Exxon)

Thanks for the advice. I havent gone and looked at the bike yet, but he says it is in fact EFI. The webiste does indeed say carb for 2004 but the dealer I called said that the 04 he has in stock is efi as well, but it wasnt camo. So I can only assume the dealer and this guy is right and the website is wrong or you could get the bike with carb or efi in 2004.
Interesting info about the camo and being hard to scratch. Maybe he rolled it over?

I really dont know how it could have been "abused". It only has 4 hours on it. Unless he went out on the highway wide open for 4 hours Im not sure how much abuse you could put on something in 4 hours.

Either way,Ill have to give this some serious consideration, seeing how it lists KBB for $5715.

After doing a search on here for 700 twin I saw a 04 a guy listed on ebay and got $6300. Is this a normal resale price or did he get lucky?

Maybe ill just pass and buy what I wanted to in the first place. Thanks for all the replies though..

Hi!!!!
YOUR FRIEND IS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2004.5 700EFI Mossy oak camo!!!!!!!!!!

It's not on the web site...................it was a "special addation" call the "Hunters Special"

Polaris had the Hunters Special in all size sportsmans for 2004.5.......................my dealer had Three, 400, 500 and my 700EFI...........he could not get any more, as they were very limited.......................I have the only one any where around.

it comes with Factory installed:

camo rims
textured rack rails
hand/thumb warmers
winch.

mine has a build date on june 22/2004

So man, that sound like a great deal.

and only 4 miles on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also..........a "Hunters Special" sportsman runs around $1500 more than a reg sportsman............in any size

I can guarantee you will like the 700 over the KQ. Not that the KQ is bad what so ever but the 700 has quite a bit more power. And that does not seem like a bad price at all. I have a friend that was very persistant on getting the KQ. He really likes it but then rode my other friends 700 and said it was a night and day difference. I would go and look at the 700 and go from there.

I think it's a great deal to be honest. I would buy it in a heart beat. My friend has the same quad and it's awesome. Also, as you pointed it out, it only has 4 hours!!

Thanks a ton...Im going to try to verify if this is in fact a "Hunters Special" sportsman. if it is, Im going to buy it. when you add in the $1500 extra it cost, $5500 is a great deal , imho. Thanks for taking the time to post!
