please need help asap- sp600 question
#1
my cousin bought a 2004 sportsman 600 three months ago and it's been fine, he called yesterday and said he couldn't get it to start. he said he used the choke, tried to give it gas and even cranked on it without the choke or gas. he said it will fire and run for a couple of seconds then die and won't restart. I know you carb model owners may have dealt with this before what do you recommend?

There was a jetting update for the 600 for the cold starts. What temp is the area that he is in now? Once he gets it started he needs to adjust the choke very slightly to keep it running. My 330 is very sensative with the choke but there is a very small area where the choke will work. Chec on the cold weather jetting update.

try these, it's the TSB for the carb update on 03 and 04 sp600/700's # 03-09-00. Your dealer should install the carb kit without charge. Polaris knows of the problem, it's no big deal and the machine will run awesome after the repair.

thanks, my cousin is going to take the quad to the dealer after christmas and see what they have to say about it. I went over his house earlier and we pulled the right plug out and it was very wet so we dried it off and I used some 1500 grit paper to clean the electrode. I reinstalled it and we got it running, took a bit of throttle play but after a few minutes feathering the throttle and a ride down the street it cleared out and will now run on it's own. we also turned the adjustment screw up so that the quad idols at about 1250.
oh and I made a mistake it's a 700 not a 600.

Just because it is not a warrany item doesn't mean Polaris won't cover the repair. I have heard from guys with 03's that are way out of warranty that have had the dealer cover the carb update. Polaris sent the bulletin out themselves because they are aware of the problem and when we pay $6000 and $7000 plus for these machines I don't think it's too much to ask for the manufacturer to fix a jetting problem. The parts are minimal and so is the time, it's no big deal. Talk to the dealer first and if they don't help then call Polaris. For what these machines cost it's ridiculous that we are having these problems at all.

Hydro, I had the update done about 6 months ago on my '03 600. The dealer did not charge me at all. I dont know that it did alot of good, but my quad will start fine in cold weather, but takes a lifetime to get warm and run good.
