If, for some reason, it's idling too high, that could cause it. Also, if the clutches needed aligning, that could cause it.

how old is your machine, how many miles....it takes a few miles to get the unit to shift easier...i.e. break-in....my '05 700 EFI was stiff as hell until I road it for awhile and did some shifting...

Brand spanking new.
Was yours so stiff you had to fight it to get it in gear?
I'm gonna try to get a ride in today .

If you can shift between the gears just fine with the engine off but it gets difficult to do the same thing with the engine running, I would say you have a too high idle issue or clutch alignment issue.

on my old '04 700EFI i initially had a similar hard shifting issue. i brought it back to the dealer, they said they lubed shifter 'stuff' and when i got it back, it shifted PERFECTLY.

whatever they did, it did the trick. very happy after that!

(other possibilities have already been listed in above posts)

let us know what you or dealer find.

when i first got it, I had to really push to get it in gear, it seemed to loosen up pretty quickly....if riding it and doing some shifting doesn't loosen it up, then I would take it to the dealer and see what is wrong...
