Default Replacement Oil filter for 700

Has any one found an oil filter to fit a 2003 Sportsman 700?
I did find one similar at Canadian tire, but it didn't have the valve in side like the polaris one. I believe this is the bypass valve. I didn't think it would be safe to use not having that built in.

wix filters has a replacement filter part number 51357. you can also take this number to the parts store and cross reference it to other brands of filters. I am currently using an stp oil filter on my two 700 EFI's and they work but I am going to either get the fram or the wix filters the next time around. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 0w40 incase your wondering. I figure why use the polaris brand oil and filter, it's not like they are actually manufacturing the products themselves right? another company is making it and relabeling them for polaris.

Thanks, but where can u buy wix filters?? Also, I've looked for 0W40 Moble and haven't seen it, only 10W30 & 5W40. Maybe I should look harder, lol.

I agree, why use there brands if they cost more, especially when the warranty is up.

Have you compared a 700 and 800 oil filter, they could be the same?

I looked up on the wix site the part # silverbullet gave me, and it says it fits a 89-97 Ford Probe, Mazda trucks 83-96 and KIA Sportage 95-02. So if you look up the fram filter for these vehicles, I think you'll find the right filter. Makes sense.

Here's the x-reference # for the Fram, from the wix one.

I bought the wix filter, wasn't much cheaper. Cost me $10, the Polaris one is $14. But I didn't have to drive 1/2 hr. One problem though, the wix filter has a slightly larger diameter than the Polaris filter. It was rubbing on the engine block, so I had to file a bit of it away. Not much, maybe and 1/8" or less. Did it with a half-round file, the used wet/dry sand paper to make it look good. You can't see it with the filter on anyways.

silverbullet2005, did you have this problem with the STP filter??? I think next time I'll get the FRAM filter, I would have this time but they were out of stock at the stores I went to. Or which ever is cheapest.

I bought the FRAM filter after I installed the WIX, wish I'd have waited. Oh well, but the FRAM filter was cheaper, $6, and it's the exact dimensions as the Polaris. I bought a couple of them, for future oil changes. I found them at Wal-Mart, but still can't find 0W-40 Mobil 1 oil anywhere. Maybe in Canada they just stock the higher weight oil, I dunno. I'll keep looking, or go to Detroit and get some.

You guys have to watch what filter your putting on.
sometimes cheaper isent better.
fram filters dont have the a Back flow gizmo that prevent the oil from draining back into the filter ,
which in turn starves your topend for oil .
pay more for a good fliter, it's worth it in the long run
