I have a 97 425 Magnum that I would be looking to trade in for a 2001 SP 500 H.O. I have a few questions...

1st, What is the lowest I should take on the 425 from the dealer? Only 400 miles on it! Never abused.

2nd, Are all 2001 Sportsman models the H.O.? If not how can you tell the difference?

I am exploring this venture as I like the shaft drive over the chain. I like the new braking system over what I have now. Bigger gas tank and a few other benefits over the older model.

When I went to the dealer (Chaparral in San Bernardino CA) they said they never heard of the 500 H.O. and still did not have any 2001 models or brochures. Is there a way to buy one on-line and have it shipped? I like the camo but will settle for the standard green.

Thanks !!

A 97 with only 400 miles?? Have you been in a coma? Just kidding. That's very low milage for a 97 though. I really think you'll get a better price selling it out right, then buying the HO. I think the dealer will concentrate on the year of the bike and selling it out right you can take advantage of the low milage. Assuming the bike "looks" like it only has 400 miles. Good luck either way.

Go to www.KBB.com .

They have retail and trade in values. The trade in is FRIGHTENING. Check this out.

If your' quad is 4x4, the following values apply.

Retail value: $4225.00
Trade in : $2905.00

Sell it, then buy the H.O.

I think that most all of the dealers have their new stock in by now. The problem is they still have 00 models left to sell so the last thing they want to acknowledge is the new SP has a HO engine cos this will kill any chance they have of selling the 00 models for a decent price.
My 2 bits for today.

With work and two active kids, I feel like I have been in a coma. I only use it to hunt and I missed 2 years. So it sat for a little. I will take it this weekend to Mammoth Mtn. CA for a hunt. When I get back I will try to sell it outright. I will be happy with 4K.

Are all the 2001 SP the H.O.?
