That's the point. If it's not going to be fully automatic then what's the use. If you have to stop and dink around to get it to kick out then it's worthless to me. It might as well have the standard front differential.
I've done an extensive search on a few forums and most of what I found was:
1. Change the hub fluid. (usually referring to the old style with fluid at each wheel)
2. Live with it.
You would think that since polaris has been using this system for quite a few years that the bugs would be worked out.

Jeff,
Mine doesn't do it. When we were out riding last weekend, I would get on the ice, do a few donuts then flip to 4wd and slide around on there and then flip back to 2wd and it would go back in 2wd after alittle spinning. 4wd systems all work differently, my Nissan truck you have to back up about 10 feet to get it to disengage....I can live with the 4wd/awd system on the Polaris, alot better than any other ATVs and better than anything I've dealt with or owned....minor inconvenience....just the way they work...

Thanks for the info. For me, and others who have reported that this has happened since new, changing the hub fluid now wouldn't make sense. I have less than ten miles and have not driven in mud or water.
I'll keep the hub fluid solution in mind for later on.
Thanks.

If it would disengage after 20 feet or so that would be fine, but most of the reports I've seen are like mine where it will stay engaged until you do the reverse trick.

Hey, Jeff. I'm with Dave- the AWD on my 05 has worked flawlessly so far. I'd say if you have to "dink around" with it to get it to unlock, you should probably bring it back to the dealer. Hell, you just dropped a good chunk of change on that toy, and it should work the way you want and expect it too.

Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping it will just start to behave better after it goes in and out several more times. I will check the fluid as soon as I figure out how much there should be and where it is located. My shop manual hasn't arrived yet. It was shipped last week.
If the fluid level is good and it continues to not work correctly then I'll take it in.
Thanks for the recommendations and education.

it takes 4 Oz im almost positive... it shows how right in the manual, uncrew the full plug unscrew the drain plug then put in the drain plug and fill to the top of the threads and your good to go. i hope you dont get frustrated with your new machine remember its new and may need some time to get everything worn in.

I've got over 400 miles on my machine now. I rarely used 4wd before now. I changed the oil at 10 hours. I now am going to do a second oil change and going to change the diff fluid front and rear for the hell of it. I think my regular/often fluid changes are why I rarely ever have any problems with my machines. I also check bolts, screws, cables, etc....keep everything lubed.

I got a 05 700 efi and my AWD is working great.I looked in my book it says 5ozs or 150ml for front diff also fill to bottom of fill hole.It also says change every 250 miles or 400KM . Hope this helps. I would try to change the oil you never know maybe a filling in the rollercage, just a thought.
