What size plow to get?
#1
What size plow would be appropriate for plowing driveways as well as side walks? Since the 48" blade will only cover the width of the vehicle if the blade is straight, is the 48" not ideal for longer driveways?.
The other problem then is, my sidewalks are about 55" wide, but I don't know if all of them in the neighborhood are (I will be plowing for at least 10 houses per snowfall...sidewalks and longer driveways). Will it be possible to plow only a 55" path with a 60" blade angled properly? If I angle the blade too much in heavy snow, won't/could it cause the ATV to loose traction sideways?
With all that being said, would it be better to get a 48" blade for my urban setting?

I have the Glacier Plow 60" blade. when it is turned to one side completly, It is approx. 30 degrees off square. With this angle, a 60" blade will only cover a 52" width. It sounds like that would be perfect for those 55" sidewalks and you would not have to make more than one pass at them.
The 48" blades won't plow past your own wheel width and you would be packing some of the snow down as you plow.

i assume you will be plowing with the ATV in you signature. considering the Scrammy has no LOW range and is generally smaller than the monsterous Sportsman, i would suggest a 48" plow. no way 60" on a Scrammy.
wish u all a Happy New Year and be safe!

Hello everyone. I just joined this forum and when I saw this question about plows I had to give my opinion. You said you will be plowing with either a SP or a Vinson? Well I have a Sportsman 500 H.O. 2004.5 and just installed the Polaris Glacier system with the 60 inch Razor two way blade. Iam blown away at how well this thing works. I live on Lake Superior in snow country and have a 300 foot long, 24 foot wide driveway with a turn-around for the transport I drive. We just had a snow storm last week when I was on the road so a couple of days went by before I could plow. There was about 12 inches of snow (deeper in the drifts) and this thing had no problem pushing it. I still have the stock Carlisle Badlands and I can push snow over the blade without breaking traction. The shape of the razor blade will allow you to somewhat throw the snow at higher speeds. It is also wide enough that when I have it at full angle to push the banks back it doesn't catch the tires in the bank. Even when pushing into hard banks that are taller than the blade it doesn't pull the ATV.
Hope this helps you a little.
