I would run around 10psi, if the tire can take that much psi. IMO after 50 miles of road use you wouldn't have much tire left.

I would prolly run 7 psi. I run 5 when on dirt and gravel and about 3 at the dunes. On asphalt I actually run 5-7 psi, depending on what tires I have on.

Depending on the tire, I've put 20 pounds in the tires to run hard pack or with two people on board. When riding on asphalt/pavement, you can really wear down your tires and make the handling change if you go long ways on the pavement.....

If you are riding by yourself, I would put in around 10 pounds. My mudlites and 589's, both 27", I run 7 psi in each tire. Even at 7 psi, last weekend I drove some weeds inbetween the tire and rim.....hmmm, must have put alittle side pressure on there....

Hey Elkbow - I have 27" 589's on my 2004 1/2 700 and with 2 people have alot of tire rub on the back fenders. Did you do any spring mods on your rear suspension???

Not needed on the 2005, the suspension is totally different than the 2004 machines. Look at these pics and you can see what I mean:

Yeah - I see the suspension diff on your machine - I was in the store at Highlifter this week and the guy said I should just live with the rub... I don't want to do alot of suspension mods since that increases the chances of equip damage, but just thought someone must make a stronger / stiffer spring for the rear end. Am thinking about the progressive set up for the front since max deflection in mud holes gives some rub, but the rear axle is the main concern right now.

Thanks for your feedback, mabey someone else has had my problem and can offer a solution for a 2004 1/2.

To show you how much different the '04.5 is from the '05 springs....check this out...the red springs are my factory front springs, the black ones are the progressive front springs for the '05:
