Default Huge Rock vs. 2004 SP500

What a way to start the new year! Jan 1 I was out riding here in Vegas and having a blast. Well, I crested a hill and there is was...a HUGE rock right in the middle of the trail. At 30mph I didn't have time to do anything except get ready to fly.

Amazingly, the quad hit the rock and flew over it. My friend said that my wheels were at least 2 feet off the ground and I stayed on.

Damage is extensive: front left "a" arms are now at 90 degree angles, strut, radiator, CV joint, frame supports, and the drive shaft to the left front wheel are all totalled. The frame is all bent up as well. All the insurance guy coulld say is that I was lucky not to have flown off. I am not sure if the quad will be declared a total loss or if it can be fixed. The shop will have to look at it and see if the frame can be straightened out or not. We shall see what happens.

Polaris make one tough *** quad! The rock weighed at least 60 pounds (we moved it off the trail) and was about 15 inches high. So, in the Rock vs. SP 500 match up...the rock won but not without the SP 500 giving it one heck of a fight!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have a dumb question. How did the rock get there? Was it put there by some jerk? Was it a real trail? Good to hear you made it out ok.

LOL! How did the rock get there ehh? Well today I also hit a rock today, and busted my rim, and that rock was never there, and isn't suppose to be there either because it's the drag lane.

I was in the far west end of the Vegas valley just riding some trails. The rock was moved (after being cussed out). I guess the rock just rolled off a hill after some recent railns.

Quad is in the shop and I should have an estimate by Fri. Insurance is covering everything but the $250 deductible so life is good. I just bought a new 2005 SP500 so now my wife will get the old one when it's fixed. The Trail Boss will be the "guest" quad now.

On with life.
