Default Two Way Communicators

PS: How do you like your 800?? I saw your vids looks pretty cool... What state trails do you ride on???? Have you ever been to the SProul State Forest Trails??? I have omly ever been to the Buchannan State Forest Trails...
Thank you all for the help.

I love the 800!! Its exactly what I've been wanting in a utility quad. It's a workhorse when you need it to be and then somewhat of a sport quad when you want it to be. The 04 carb 700 I had before was nice but coulda used a little more. But this one is perfect. No complaints so far.

I mainly ride in Buchannan as its near my house. The only other one I have been riding recently which is where the vid's were taken is Michaux State Forest - Between Chambersburg and Gettysburg. A lot more trails then Buchanon. I was looking at the trail maps for Buchanon, did they change? I thought there were two areas to ride there. Maybe I am thinking of Snow trails. Michaux is the only local Winter State forest open for me. It's been really rocky at Michaux. I've been meaning to go to Sproul - maybe this summer I will.

Have another question, When you used the chatterbox, is it full duplex? Everyone could talk at once without getting cut off? And did you use the PTT feature or the VOX? How well did the VOX work?

Hello jwyles. Both the Chatterbox and Collet hang on the side of the helmet. But the collet is much lighter because the battery pack is separate. For us, the Collet has a Snowmobile grooming alert for when we are sleding. I am not so concerned about communication with other FRS radios. So compatiblity is not an issue. The units are mainly for communication between myself and my wife. Actually so she can talk to someone: ME. LOL
I hope this helps.

BigReub,

I was wondering if there was a setup that you could plug in for when you are hunting and not wearing a helmet....

jwyles,
The Chatterboxes are not full duplex, just like a Talkabout, when some one keys the Mike they own the channel unitl they shutup......LOL
The VOX worked great if you turn the VOX level to a setting the that wind, your breathiing, or the noise of the bike did not activate it\.

I only Rode Buchanan once, we parked over near Rainsburg which is Marting Hill. There are two different Trails in Buchanan; Sideling Hill and the one we were on...

Is Michaeux a new area, I don't remember seeing it on the map before????

I've been wanting to hit the ones in Clinton County (Bloody Skillet and Sproul) and the trails over in Lycoming (Haneyville), just never make it there.... It sucks that We have to drive so far to get on State sanctioned trails. One is 2 hours (Buchanan) and the others are around 3 hours (Sproul), I hope someday they open up some trails in Gallitzin State Forest.....

Zman, I feel the chance of finding a system that works well for both is very slim.

I use Motocomms for riding. And...

For hunting I use earpices from Radioshack. I use the kind that goes in the ear (rather than a headphone type) to control sound. Don't know if it's a fact, but I feel that someone talking in an ear piece is less audible that thru a headphone. And I'd be pi**ed if I had a nice shooter nearby and my buddy started talking and scared of my trophy.

Anyhow, the earpieces fit in the same Cobra radios. The earpices can fold up and be carried in a pants or shirt pocket with no problems. Now I can ride to a hunting site with the Motocomm, unplug the radio, plug in the earpiece, put it in my ear, and go.

Now, on the other hand, I have a friend that used an earpice while riding at Hatfield-McCoy last year. He said it got the job done. However, he also said it was a pain in the a**. And since riding with Motocomms he agrees the way to go is having a setup for both.

No, I've ridden on that for years, mainly snowmobiling. Look for it on the map in south central PA - below harrisburg. The road I unload on is called shippensburg road. The town its in is called Caledonia. Rt 30 kinda splits it.

I also have a set of those cheap FRS wristradios. THey work well for what they are, but when riding, the PTT on your wrist is useless. Again, IMO, i would not use VOX radios because i like to know when im TXing, especially so I don't block out others who may need to talk. I loved the PTT right on the grip with the MotoComm. And with the GMRS radios it is hard to go out of range if riding with other people. I have been unable to make the radios lose any signal quality on our 24 acres of thick forest, from one corner to the other. I admit i havent used anything else, but those MC headsets were very nice

Hey tyler711. Our wrist radios make a sound in the ear piece when it is transmitting so you know it is transmitting (with VOX on). And I agree with you, the PTT on the front is clumsy. However, the PTT on the microphone is quite easy to use when the VOX is turned off. I usually ride with the VOX turned off and I use the mic button. My wife prefers the VOX when she rides. She gets a lot more use out of the transmitter than I do.

Well mine must be extra cheap, they dont have ptt buttons on the microphone . I know what you mean about the talking, my brother used to find it amusing to purposely sing annoying songs over the radio. No one could tell him to shut up or what channel for everyone else to switch to (his favorite was the chorus from the Yellow Submarine). I eventually got him to stop by having him read the fine print on the GMRS licenses (the part about jail and fines)
