Default ZERK FITING ?

Just a quick question.... Is the zerk fitting on the rear axel housing threaded? I want to replace the straight one with and angled one and I don't want to screw it up if it is not threaded.

Thanks

My 2001 500 4x4 scrambler was not threaded. It was press fitted something like a pop rivet. I ended up completely disassembling the axle assembly, grinding the zerk fitting off flush, and then driving the remianing piece into the housing and then pulling the piece out of the mess of grease. Turned out to be a bigger job then I had planned.

I stuggle with this as well. I tried to upscrew mine, but is seems to be pressed in. I have to unbolt my shock to grease the rear end. Very poor design. I bought angled zirk fittings, but I can't get that one out. I was thinking or drilling the ball out on the existing fitting and hooking-up a tube to it to extend it.

One thing you might do is leave the original one alone and drill and tap a new fitting in where it is angled right. That way you will have both fittings available for use. I used a 90 degree fitting so that when it is on top it points backwards and when it is in back it points down. I agree... not a very good design.

Why not just get a flexable house for your grease gun? Sounds like quite a job to replace or add them when you could just get a different greaser.

i think they are talking about when the adjuster rolls forward and is obstructed. flex wouldnt help.

Although, I have never had this problem.

I guess my chain hasnt stretched enough,,,,,,its getting close.
