The heck with the metallic HO!!!!
#1
Bad news all around today. I called 9 dealers to see what I could find out about a metallic HO. Nobody had one, and two dealers said that had gotten a fax from Polaris saying that they had met their demand on the Metallic color and would not be making any more. Thats real nice to hear dammit!! So I call this one dealer who has a decent price and he says he has one. I specifically asked if it was a 2001 HO model, and he says yes. That gets the wheels turning and I figure if he does have it, then it won't last past this weekend probably.
So I call up a couple banks to talk about loans. I figure I'll just get a loan and get the thing, and then whenever I sell the AC, just drop that money in on the principal. No problem. So I go to the bank at lunch and fill out a damn credit application. Then I call them later like 8 times trying to get a hold of the loan officer to see if he ever did the credit check. Finally at 4:30, I get him and he says call tomorrow and he will have it. Good thing. So I call the dealer again to get all of the details on this set in stone and after a bit of talk, he goes and looks and tells me that the Metallic sportsman he has is just a 2000. I was pissed, but kept my composure and decided that I had originally intended on a green one. So I ask him about the winch deal. He had earlier acted as if this applied, but now he says only on 2000 models. Well that did it. This is long, sorry, I was not happy today. I told him thanks and hung up the phone.

So now I'm torn between calling the bank tomorrow and telling them to forget it, or going ahead with the loan and going to Missouri on Saturday and getting a green HO for $6300. I'm not in as much of a hurry now, but I'd rather not jerk the bank around like that (as if it matters, there are many other banks out there). It won't really hurt me to buy this before getting the AC sold, but the thought still looms. Also, if I buy this thing and they slap out a winch promo a week or two later, I will be irate. There is no promo at all on the 2001 models right now other than financing, and that is a joke.
If I get this thing, I'll have to take the winch off of the AC, and I view that as a selling point for it. Pretty undecided at this point, but I have to ask myself do I want the HO this soon. Not really. Damn I hate it when idiots can't get things right over the phone. This dummy cost me about an hour on the phone today, not to mention half of lunch and a few brain cells. All for nothing.

Andy:
Sorry to hear about that idiot at the dealership. You'd think that they would know what the hell they have in stock, seeing as how they sell the stuff! I agree with you, the people at the banks, credit unions, etc. are all equally worthless. Can't get a damn strait answer out of any one of them within a decent amount of time. They darned near screwed me out of my car last year when I bought it, due to taking too long on the credit check.
You think if you went ahead with the deal and bought the green HO, that if they did come out with the winch in a couple weeks, the dealer would honor it? You'd think that if it's still in the warranty period they'd honor it, but who knows anymore. They try to jerk you around any way they can these days.
Thats a tough call to make, good luck with whatever you decide, and keep us posted on the results.

Go for it Andy! All of us here know how much you want a SP500HO. Just don't go to that dealer...if you do go back though, go see the owner and tell him the story about the mixup. Tell him you want the winch and thats that! Tell him how much you will be spending now and in the future at his dealership.
It works sometimes...take it from a guy who owns a buisness. Especially when you show up with a certified check from the bank. Good luck!

You are right about that- Money Talks! The guy there is a good guy and all, just a little on the slow side I guess. He didn't jerk me around, he just didn't know what he was talking about. Not too old of a guy either, and he seemed rather green. Thats the kind you want. The veteran salesmen are always the kind you don't want. Some older guys are great, but then there are the burnouts that hop from job to job. They can't help you any. I'm still undecided on what I'll do. Just depends on the mood I'm in tomorrow morning. My cousin is getting a Rancher real soon. Sold his 87 250 fourtrax this weekend.
The Missouri dealer has both Honda and Polaris. I wondered if they would shake us a deal for buying two quads. Well, who knows. One time I called them and got the sales manager. He quoted me $6300 on the HO and $4999 on the 4wd manual shift Rancher. I called again one other day and got this pushy guy. He said $5200 for the Rancher (MSRP) and the same price for the HO as before. I asked him about getting two and he said maybe if we bought two Sp500's. I said maybe not!!! I said whats up with the crap price on the Rancher and he said he sells them as fast as he gets them. I didn't bother to tell him how old and often used that line is in the sales business. We'll just have to see on this thing. Who knows what I'll be ranting about tomorrow night.

The situation is not that bad...at least you have a great quad to ride until you decide!!!
That sounds like me...2 amazing rides in the garage and yet there are about 3 more I want. I am really hooked!
Good luck with what ever you choose.

Andy Andy Andy,
We all know what you're going through. If you hurry up and get the thing though, you'll probably just ride it around the yard everyday, just wishing you and some of your buddies could go riding somewhere somehow. There would be late night visits to the garage just to look the bike over thoroughly (again), to see if there is something that hadn't noticed before. Because of this, you could wait. However, what I have noticed on the promos like a winch, is that the dealerships just about make up for the add-on by not coming down as much on price. Also, with hunting season coming up pretty soon, sales will go up, availability will go down, and prices will go up. It's a tough call. Another thing: I read in DW a couple years ago that polaris plastic is only like $200. I don't know if that is just the colored pieces or everything. If I were in your shoes, I would just go and get the thing. Good luck, and let us know what you do.

Andy,
It's about a 14 hour drive to Greeley from where you live. I live not far from you and make the drive to Ft. Collins frequently. That's estimated on traveling around 75mph and about 4 stops along the way for gas, munchies, a sit down meal.
I'd make the drive based on the principal of your experience with local dealers alone (but hey, I'm just that kind of guy). I bought my SP500 from a John Deere tractor fella in the middle of nowhere to avoid Surdyke in Marionville and Neosho Powersports (Though I have been happy with service work at both places). From a sales standpoint both these places come on a little big for their britches -- Suydyke is REALLY BAD. Neosho is somewhat better.
But then again, I like making road trips, the scenery, and would like to meet this Chopper fella in person since we all feel like we know him with his help, pictures, and conversations!
