My friend does not like polaris, he said they break down all the time... how true is that?
He also said that the scrambler used to use an iron block... is that true? do they still?
I am thinking about buying one for my first quad, thats why I am asking... what do you say?

The 500 HO engine is all aluminum. As far as their reliablility goes..............DONT LISTEN TO HIM!!!! Polaris is just as reliable today as any other manufacturer. No machine is perfect and they all will eventually break something, especially if you ride like we do It happens. Called wear and tear. If you do the regulary schedueled maintence then you should have nothing to worry about. The scrambler is an awsome multipurpose machine. It doesnt shine in any particular area, but does it ALL pretty well. Its more sporty than the utes and more utility than the sports. The almost perfect "in-between" machine. It is an absolute BEAST on the trails. That is where the scrammy really shines!!! Might I ask what kind of riding will you be doing and on what type of terrain? Also, what other machines will you be riding with?

The scrambler is a great all around quad. The 500 HO is one of the best and most reliable powerplants.
I have had relativly few problems with my 2 Polarises. Just keep up on the maintanance.

i have had mine since i bought it off the show room floor, 2001 , all i have had to do was ride it. i change the chain, lube the zerts, and keep it clean. if this sounds like a pain to you then all bikes are junk, cause they all have to have this done. polaris is a fantastic brand and are built very well. dont worry about the brand. dependable is all i could say! just be cautious about the bike you buy if not new. it may be worth it to have your local polaris bike dealer inspect it. they know what a abused bike looks like. hope this helps.

very happy with our '02 scrammy
a virtual tank in my eyes
all of my friends have flipped it except one
I have personally rolled it down a pretty steap rocky slope,,,,and it just wont quit
i grease it regularly and change the fluids on schedule
Im still all stock,,,,and not showing much signs of wear.
Great machine,,,,,and the 4x4 is awesome

Thanks a lot.
For comparison I rode my friends Wolverine last year a couple times. I liked it, but it lacked the power I wanted... The scram seams to be the only quad that is what I want.... fast, 4x or 2x, torque... and not the most expensive either.
I was considering the banshee before just cause its a little cheaper and i wanted to go fast, but i didnt want to have to wind it up all the time, you know? so I thought of the raptor, but its too sporty i think... and its expensive here in canada.
I DIDNT want a utility... i hate the boxyness.
The scram seems to be the best of everything that I want. It has some performance mods you can do (Aaen) which is another thing i wanted... prolly just do intake/carb/exhaust stuff... nothing sacriligious to the engine.
does anyone know any other performance websites that deal with the scram a good deal?
thanks for the answers to the previous questions, and the welcome
OHH< 1 more question... can you take a girlfriend with you on the back of a scrambler?

if your girl is on the back, try and stay off the throttle. git on it too hard, it will drive out from under the both of you. just from experience.
just get a quad for your girl too. i did. now we are both happier.
good luck! let us know what you buy!!!! and post pics!!!

I think you will be happy with a scrambler. The type of riding that you are talking about sounds like the riding I do. I ride with a group of about ten people and more then half use scramblers. Most everyone rides double at some time with no problems. You will want to get a rack. It gives your passenger something to hold on to and a good place to put the cooler. It also serves as a wheelie bar if needed. The only problem I have with taking a girl friend is when my wife finds out.
