Is the Gold 2-stoke synthetic worth it?
I've used both the Gold and Blue and haven't been able to tell any real difference. I can't speak for long-term reliability as I've only had it a year though. I don't want to start another "which oil is best" flame war but I've heard from a few people that the Polaris oil in general is pretty good.

In my opinion, the polaris gold is worth the extra money.Been using it since 99 and havent had a thing go wrong.Motor related that is.Peace of mind and less smoking were the biggest assets of this oil.Whats a few dollars more for over protection.Scott.

You can use whatever you're comfortable with. As far as the difference between the blue and the gold, the gold is supposed to smoke less. If it's an older model, you may want to use the gold. You can use amsoil, just have to find a distributor. I'm sure you'll get offers on from the forum on that. Not a bad deal if they'll ship it to you free. In reality, they don't use that much oil anyway, so my suggestion would be use what is more convient to you. I would reccomend staying with a synthenic oil whatever you choose.

When i got my Xplorer 250 2 stroke 01 the guy who owned that only used Polaris Gold 2 stroke oil too. But when that stuff ran out i was going to order the polaris stuff again but figured that let me try something new. Spectro Gold 2 stroke stuff now that stuff kick a$$ well i never had any problems yet and been running it like that for a year or 2 now. So all that stuff you hear is a myth i guess.
