When you pay 8000.00 for a machine you shouldent have to slid going down a hill after all we spent alot of mony for a four wheel drive and that means going down the hills too.

Hello markie. Better that than both front tires sliding every time you go around a corner, like the competition 4WD systems. So I guess we have a choice. We can use our brakes when we go down the hills on our Polaris. Or we ride the competition and slide, our front tires on every corner. I personally have no problem using brakes on hills because I have 2WD.
Have a good day

My artic cat goes down hills so much better than my polaris,I can put my cat in first gear and not even hit the brakes going down a hill,on the same hill i have to put my polaris in high and the rear end still wants to slid so you have to work the brakes all the way down.If polaris fixed that problem it would be a much better machine. We have steep hills with off cambers here in ut,and it can be scary on the polaris where my cat has no problem and it don"t slid around corners.

Hello markie. You are right, the EBS would be better if it would brake on the front tires. However, it should not be a major source of inconvenience to apply the brakes. I have to do it on all hills because I have no EBS. The reason your front tires slide on all corners (while 4WD is engaged) is that the front tires travel a larger radius than the rears in a turn. As a result, they turn faster. However, since the 4WD does not allow them to turn faster, they slide.
I hope this clarifies things.

It is possible to lock all 4 wheels for going down a steep hill but there is a caution. Once all 4 wheels have locked in steering becomes very hard and worse if one wheel runs over a trench or washout it can unlock leaving you will 3 wheels locked. If you thought steering with 4 wheels locked try doing it with 3 going down a steep hill. It will turn in the direction of the locked wheel and it will take all your might to steer it.
With that word of caution out of the way here's how you do it.
Start your decent and once you have all 4 wheels on the downhill, stop. Engage the AWD button, put it in reverse gear, press the override button (if it isn't already bypassed). Hit the throttle enough to spin the rear wheels then stop. This locks in the front Halyard clutches and now you can start your decent with all 4 wheels locked in. The override button can be released once the fronts are locked in. When going down hill this way don't accelerate as this will unlock one or both Halyard clutches.</FONT>
You mentioned a reverse override button bypass;override. Is there one available?

Thanks,

Hows the riding in michigan,if you ever hit ut we have some great riding areas here and some very chalanging trails. I never have any sliding problem s while in 4whdr,when Im just going out trail riding I take my polaris 700 its like a cadilac. When i go riding the hard stuff with my freind who ride foremans I take my cat 400 because its like a mountain goat and I feel more confident on it because i dont like going down some of the steep off camber stuff these guys take me on.They always laught at me going down the hills out of control swearing at Polaris for there ebs. They dont laugh when we go up them because my 700 eats them up.

To Mlebout, there is no kit per-say for the reverse bypass, it just takes a little wiring change and in some cases adding a diode. The needed wiring changes vary from model to model based on model year.

For those of you that don't like EBS on the really steep down hills (like me) just put it in neutral and ride the brakes. I only do this in extreme down hills which is not too often but it does give you much better control. For medium down hills I take them a little faster by blipping the throttle just to keep the revs up a tad this way the back wheels don't slide. </FONT>
