i find it a damn shame that there are so many stupid Polaris dealers out there that don't know how to repair the stuff they sell.

enough said.

Could not agree more. I have one right down the street! However I have found Polaris Of Memphis to do a VERY good job. My local dealer (Greenway Polaris/John Deere) can kiss my a$$!

Well, after reading all of the info on here and on another forum that "trenchdigger" told about, thanks btw, I told the owner about the updated armature plate on Friday. Well he didn't know about the update, but he had his new mechanic, a very knowledgable man btw, replace it on Saturday, and since I couldn't get there because of my daughters birthday party, the mechanic met me at the shop on Sunday morning. He told me he replaced the armature with the new '04.5 and up part and then took it out in the snow and did dough nuts and such, and the fronts never kicked in. So he told me to try it out, and I proceded to test it out in the snow. Now it works PERFECTLY!!! THANK GOD!!!!! I played around that afternoon in the snow, in REAL 2WD and then in AWD and back. It did just what it was designed to do. I'm a very happy man now!! My 04.5 700 has the same problems...The dealer suggested changing the oil in the diff. I drained the oil out, and replaced it with what the dealer recdommended....Heres the real kicker....the oil I drained out was the 90W gear oil..thinking nothing of this I replaced it with the same polaris GL5 crap which is just some more 90W....Obviously my problem was not fixed...I carefully combed through my owners manual and found the fluid specification which happend to be the hub drive fluid. I called the dealer and informed them that they sold me the wrong fluid and the fluid and the original fluid I drained was in fact gear oil. They were shocked to here that the front diff used hub fluid...they were unaware of the fluid spec as well. My next step of action was to flush out 90W with new hub fluid several times, 3 to be exact...the problem is not as bad now but still exists under certain wheel spin conditions...I called the dealer again and informed them of the problem... They changed the oil a 2 more times and sent me on my way...

I have one theory ...I didnt notice the problem until about 150 miles...perhaps the normal breakin of the ring and pinion has created steel shavings. Then you add an electromagnet (aka engaging 4x4) OK...now you have a bunch of magnetized metal shavings clinging to the clutch rollers and all steel parts creating drag causing the unwanted engagement of 4wd....

My next Idea to try for a fix...(1) Remove both draing and fill plugs (2) Flush diff out with brake clean while turning tires by hand. this will hopefully get rid of as many shavings as possible (3) blow out diff with compressed air to dry out the brake clean (4) fill with hub fluid and test it out....

Hopefully my last try will work...If someone gets to it before me let me know the results...

If my fix doesnt work I know Polaris will fix it right...Its only a matter of time before an inexperienced rider will end up in an accident due to the problem and then it will be big fat lawsuit time for Polaris industries, and then recall time..

glad to hear your problem is fixed finally, did the dealer do anything for you as far as your original $500 spent. they should have reimbursed you for the hassles.

Yeah, that sounds good. We are making our move to Beckley this coming Monday, Jan. 31st. I'll be glad when we are all settled in. We closed on our new house yesterday, and our closing on the house we just sold is Feb. 11th.

We sold our 3BR 1605 sq ft house up here in the eastern panhandle for $295,000, and we bought a 3308 sq ft 4 BR house in Beckley for $261,000. Oh, the house we are selling we bought new 5 years ago for $145,500. This area has grown up so much I feel like an alien here, even though I was born here and have lived here all of my 31 years! I'm ready for the quiet, slower paced southern life!

I might be off of here for a week or two, until we get our cable hooked up and my computer back online. I'll shut everything off here this Sunday, the 30th.

They didn't reimburse anything, and it's okay, since it's finally fixed right. He did make mine top priority, and didn't charge me for the new part, and he opened the shop for me and let me pick it up on a Sunday morning.

As long as it stays right, I'll be happy.
