My First Polaris
#1
I picked up a 1997 sportsman 400 two days ago, baught it from a friend. The mechanic at the local Polaris dealership said that he had done all of the service work on the bike. He said that it had been riden hard but it has had regular service and was in very good shape. The mechanic showed me the records on the bilke, in the last 3 months it has been overhauled the motor is bored 20 over new piston and the electrical system replaced. Price was $1,400 parts and labor. He also said that is is one of the fastest bikes in the area. I purchased the bike for $1,900. The former owner and his wife were injured on the bike, fliped it over the both spent two days in hospital.
The left rear rim is a little warped, the axle is ok, it needs a set of new sprockets and chain for the rear end. Where is the best price on these items. By the way I have to squese my legs on the tank and hold on too this thing when I punch the throtle, man is it fast.

Check www.denniskirk.com . They have what you need. Do yourself a favor and order a catalog.
I've always bought my chains, sprockets, brake pads, etc. from the dealer. Once in a while they have a 20% off sale which I use to my advantage to stock up on whatever I need.
