Default Solution for winch cable/plowing problems

I would, too, if I didnt need the winch as a winch for when I ride.

Wow I keep getting this thread confused with the other one with almost the same name/topic.

Default Solution for winch cable/plowing problems

i have found that if you don't lift the plow all the way up the cable won't fray and snap. just raise the plow enough off the ground to get around. say 4-6".

if you raise it all the way up. bottoming out the winch, of course all that extra unneccesary strain will fray the cable.

i've plowed about 40 miles on my new ATV and have yet to see any cable wear.

give it a try and save some $$.

thats why I like the handle type unit to lift and drop the blade....but I can't get enough height from it to get on and off the trailer....

Default Solution for winch cable/plowing problems

I get 15 inches of lift to the bottom of my plow blade due to my 2" front suspension lift and the new 27" mudlites. so ground clearance isn't a problem.

Default Solution for winch cable/plowing problems

I have been using a $12.00 tow strap from home depot, i cut the hook off one end and wraped it around the winch drum. I did not have to even tuck it in the hole on the drum and have no problems with it going up and down. I've been using this setup since december with no issues. When i want to ride i just put the cable back on and go. Even if i overwind it at the top the drum will just slip and no stress is put on the strap. Try it!
