Default Help with race pipe on trail mod

I'd like to get a race pipe because I like the look and fit better than my trail pipe. I know the best thing to do would be to get the race port also, but I cant do that right now. I was wondering A) would there be a gain/loss in the low/mid/full throttle and if so how much B) would I need to change the rear helix or would spring/weight changes be OK (I have a 45/40 right now) C) would there be any other changes needed that I didnt think of.

Right now I have a Bubba trail port, HSP adjustable trail pipe with 2 shims in, 39PWK with a clamp on K&N, trail lightened flywheel and .025 milled head by azbadboyz, V-Force Delta 2 reeds and a spacer.

The 45-40 split helix would be great for drag racing only, but for an all around helix I wouldnt run it. Go back to the original straight 40 helix. The clutching wouldnt have to change from the regular race setup. The engagement needs to be higher than a trail pipe. I know we can set it up to engage fairly low and with the trail porting it will still have some good bottom end. It might not be as snappy on the bottom as the trail pipe, but the mid to top would be better. If leg heat is the main concern, then I think you would like the change.

By the way, the difference in power with the trail and race porting is tremendous when running the race pipe. It goes from a good running bike to an arm ripper when the porting is changed, so keep that in the back of your mind. Along with race porting you will want to engage a little higher as well.

Hey Dennis, trading is not allowed. Just kidding. He is lucky to have someone close enough to help him work these things out.

To answer a few Q's

what type of "race pipe"? I like the style that has the chamber curled up in the front, then runs a pipe to the rear...like azbadboyz pipe

what is your set up in both clutches? I have a brown HPD primary spring with stock weights up front and a violet HPD in the 2-2 in the rear... and a brand new belt because I tried to go over some rocks and it smoked

what is your style of riding? I do alot of dune riding and some desert trail riding

duneaholic- I looked at KevinMs pics and I'm trying to get away from that style pipe, the big chamber under your leg.

Bubba- so put the stock helix back in? Should I try that now or do it if I get this pipe? P.S. I'd like to get the race port done but I have to do it when my wifes not looking

Dailyrider- (in a whisper)..I'll see you tomorrow for that new belt

KevinM has the CPI and is alot like the HPD Race Pipe and AZ Bad Boys pipe. This pipe is far away enough from my leg for me compared to the HPD Trail Pipe. I can't get a picture of how the AZ Pipe looks cause I've never seen one on a bike. Hint Hint.
