Scrambler headlight relocation
#1
I just purchased a 05 scrambler 500 4x4. Its my first quad in about 10 years. I love it. Its awesome. Anyway I donmt really care fo rthe lighting arrangement on it. I was considering relocating them to the front fender right below the "S" on Scrambler. Has anyone done this? Do yall think it will look stupid? I am just tossing around the idea. The only mod would be to extend the harness a few inches. Also what are the 2 butt conectors for under the cowl? One is green and the other is yellow. Tach and spedo maybe? Thanks for the input

You'll have to mount the lights to metal wherever you relocate them, of course, or they'll just flop around. Where the bumper bolts to the frame, at the top, might be a good place because the fender plastic is cut back there. Or a piece of square tubing u-bolted to that same bumper somewhere.
Do you know why the Scrambler mounts the headlights like they do? Get in some tight woods at night and you be really glad they are mounted to the handlebars. They illuminate where where you want to go, because you steer that way, not just where the machine is pointing. Other machines, with lights mounted to the body, always point forward and you can't see as much as you'd like. Even Polaris' utility quads like the Sportsman have fixed body lights, but also a third one mounted to a pod on the handlebars. Its useful and a good idea. But I agree, not the most attractive setup. On a lot of them you'll see one pointed up and one down, looking like a guy with a glass eye. Keeping them tight will solve this. I replaced my square ones with 6" round truck off road lights and like the look better. But be careful with extra lights, the Scrambler charging system isn't as robust as other models and more powerful lights than stock can kill the battery. At least that's the case on my 2 stroke 1999 400. Yours, being newer and with the 500 4 stroke engine, may have a more powerful charging system. If you replace the lights, rather than just relocate them, save one and mount it as a backup light. Its very handy.

yea I knew thats why they mounted them the way the did. I have been looing at different places to mount the and have ot found anywhere i like. I am just going to leave them where they are.
I have already added a k&n and a aaen pipe. A roller helix and clutch kitare on the way. That should tide me over for a bit.

Check out my page. I have new lights I mounted on the grille. I kept the original lights so i can see on trails in the woods better, but I wired these in on a different switch so they are powered by the ignition and an illuminated switch. They stay really well, and I haven't seen any problems with electrical power, nor them shaking too much from being up there.

It is the 05 graphics. Nothing aftermarket, it came stock with the flames! I was going for the 04 but they didn't have any left, but once I saw the 05 graphics I was glad they ran out of the 04's!

scrambler pictures
these pictures are old but here is my custom headlight. I tried little fogs on the bumper, but having a handle bar mounted light works alot better when stearing in tight woods like was mentioned.

What a difference out of the hole and lost almost nothing on the top end.
