Tire slippage keeps different than stock tire ratios from being a problem. The fact that we ride with a solid straight axle out back and can actually turn the thing shows that they are slightly slipping at just about any time. You know the difference in turning on dirt, mud and sand versus pavement. So if the front/rear ratio is a little different than stock, it slips enough to keep from binding.
Even with tire slippage, you do not want the rear tires being much smaller than the fronts (not more than the original ratio). Then you will be in 4WD all the time that awd is turned on. That would make steering nearly impossible, whether on pavement or off-road. You would not want that.

jshh i wish i read this post more in depth before i ordered my new back wheels. i wanted 24 inch dirt devils but the guy wouldnt sell em to me b/c i didnt want to do the fronts yet so i ended up gettin stock 22 inch for the rear. he said that i shouldnt mess with the ratios at all b/c IT WILL MESS MY TRANNY UP.... o well next year ill do it all over i guess. btw has anyone heard of the sand tires unlimeted AT? its kinda of like a spider trac but its only 12 inches wide? if so how you guys rate em>? thanks and how much of a pain is it to get the lugs on the rims for itp c series if its anything like the mojave i put em on im sending them back b/c it was a real pain. the holes in the rim were just big for the lugnnuts to be put in but i couldnt get a socket in to tighten them. is there a special tool? or does this proablem not happin with scramblers?
