Scrambler Transmission Problem
I have a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4. I took it riding and ended up taking it off some jumps. At the end of the day the chain broke. I replaced the chain and now the tranny is acting funny. When I put it in reverse, the quad will go about a foot and pop into neutral. I tried holding it in neutral, but it made a grinding noise. When it sits in neutral, it has a mettalic sound. Drive works great. 4x4 also works great. Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them? HELP!!!

Check yur shifter adjustment if that apperars fine then sheck to see if your swing arm has any play from side to side by jacking it up and pulling back and forth tho see if there is any play. If there is a play then there is a problem with your bushings so you will need to repalce them then i bet that will fix your problem,.

your problem is more than likely in the gearcase from what i read in your post. grinding in neutral, wont go in reverse. it could be the engagement pawls or gear on reverse shaft. there is also a chain going to the reverse shaft that may be slpping over the teeth on the gear. when you were jumping something may have let go in gearcase. also look for any cracks in case around where chain broke. ive seen the chain push the case in next to the sprocket, of course a leak would be evident.
