TEXMud,

In response to your questions:

1. what did you do about the stock gasket? It obviously cant be reused. I was thinking of just putting on some silicon or goop to seal it up.

Since there is no need to remove the snorkel from the lid after the mod, silicon should work just fine. I used double sided foam tape as a gasket.

2. Did moving the snorkel back have any affects with the plastic? Seems like it would move the entire snorkel back .5 inches or so. My concern would be plastic or seat putting pressure on it.

At first I thought the base of the snorkel would get crushed by the seat. But after moving the snorkel back a half an inch you still have .5 to .75 inches of clearence under the seat.

3. What did you use to resecure it? Looks like rivets and screws were used. I guess an old fashion nut and bolt would work

I drilled new holes and used the original screws. (sorry, my camera does not take good close-ups)

Paul, I guess I'm missing something here....looking at the part numbers from the Polaris parts manual for the 700 and 800, the airbox is the exact same thing, so is the gasket....the difference is the snorkel, so can't you just mount the new snorkel to the existing airbox lid and gasket?

Also, I looked at your pics of the 700 vs 800 exhaust, so are you putting the 800 exhaust on your 700? That would be interesting since it should bolt right up....well hopefully, I know it will bolt right up too my '05 700 EFI....?

elkbow,
Yes the 800 snorkel will bolt right on to the air box lid. If you look at the pics you can see the lid and snorkel base were enlarged to further increase the air flow. It is your option to leave it original or enlarge the opening.

The 800 front is on and you can read about here:

Even without moving the snorkel, you can STILL open up the breather. I cut a fair ammount of plastic off mine and i still havent moved mine. I dont want it to get too lean.

I got the snorkel for the 05 800 today and It won't work on my 02 500ho, it comes up about 2 to 3 inches short. So I am going to give any 1 a chance on here to buy it and the seal for a flat 20.00. That includes Priorty shipping, snorkel and seal. I gave 19.16(snorkel)3.96(seal)and 5.00(shipping), buy the time I send it back and restocking fee I will lose anyway so I will give you guys a chance. Send me a message.

I have been trying to get a copy of it and the cable. I want it for service reasons more than anything.
