I cant speak for any of the others, but I do have a KLR 650. It is by far the most favorite bike ive owned which have been triumphs and an enduro when I lived in New Mexico. First I didnt like the seat height, then I got used to it and now have come to appreciate it. In traffic you can see over cars and they can see you, the seat height actually takes away a little bit of the fear factor when riding in traffic. As a street bike it cant be beat, as a touring bike its pretty decent, trails and dirt roads it awsome, add mud and it sucks. The bike is better on the street than it is in the dirt. 12 thousand miles without a glitch except for alot of new rubber in the rear. Ive heard of one guy that got an Iron But award and has 67,000 on his. Figure on 46-48mpg, it actually becomes worse if you try to drive conservatively. Has a top speed of 95 mph stock, takes a while from 75-95 though. Theres an old phrase that says all" unhappiness comes from comparison", not so in this case.

I owned one of the first year KLR650's back in '92. I loved that bike then and still do. It got stolen a year after I bought it. It was better on street than off. I believe that was due to tire as much as anything. A set of more dirt orriented dual sport tires would fix most of it's ills. Rode it all around SoCal. Only things to watch out for are passing or being passed by large vehicles and gusty days. The profile to weight ratio made the bike get pushed very hard side to side. I've been looking for a cheap used one for a couple of years around here, but a steal is very hard to find.lol
