Default FIRST AID KIT

I have have sutures and a staple gun in the kit....I have a fairly high pain threshold, so if I really need to stitch myself up I would, but hopefully that doesn't happen. I've had alot of stitches, but they were all done from the doc so far, but just in case I have them in my kit....
Super glue makes very good stitches and is much less painfull. Even real doctors are using it to close up wounds. Moisture is what makes it react and dry and blood is moisture. Used it fishing on long range boats and helped me on several occasions.
They actually sell the glue version now, probably alittle more sterile than super glue, i've used super glue before

i got stitches in two fingers last year, one was a bad cut, the other just needed some glue....the funny thing was, I cut them same two fingers in almost the same spot when I was younger, the one cut is almost right on top of where I had stitches before....i won't tell you what happened....it would hurt...

Default FIRST AID KIT

I have 2 each inflatable arm and leg splints, 6 triangle bandages/slings, 6 ace bandages, 12 4x4 gauze pads, 4 sucking chest wound patches, 4 eye bandages, 3 different sizes of battle dressings, 4 sizes of airways as well as all the little stuff. It all fits in a 9x12 duffel that is no big deal to carry on the sportsman. Something I have found to be as necesary as superglue for stitches is liquid skin to seal scrapes from the dust and dirt of continuing the day. I also bought a dozen of those sponge/brush combos with the yellow disenfectant loaded on them to clean out wounds/hands. Unfortunately in most off-road sports the injuries tend to be more severe than your basic bandaid will handle.
I agree. A basic kit will probably rarely be able to handle most off road injuries/accidents. However, I guess one has no choice. I don't carry anything as of right now, but if I did it would be subject to A LOT of mud and water which means I would be changing my first aid kit often. I wouldn't want anything too bulky or extensive on my quad. It would just be too much to "maintain" and keep in order plus I hate strapping stuff down on my quad. However, I will be getting something similar to Sean99TJ to keep in my truck so I can at least ride back to or send someone to my truck to get it. I am considering a small kit for the quad but I'm not sure it would even be worth it to carry such a small kit. I also agree that if you are a hardcore off-roader, even the simplest first-aid or first responder courses wouldn't hurt.

Sean99TJ,
Are you an EMT or something? Reason I'm asking is that your kit sounds like you knew what you were looking for when you got it. I don't think most people would think to get or let alone use an oropharyngeal airway if ever needed. Just wondering.

Default FIRST AID KIT

I recieved a large amount of training in the military. I am a member of a jeep club that has had a fatal accident during an outing, so I try to be prepared. Motor vehicle accidents are significantly worse than what most over the counter first aid kits can provide.

I also am a Forest Watch volunteer with the State DNR.

I prefer the inflatable splints (even though I carry the rolls of wiremesh also) because they also can be utilized as a compression device for severe bleeding of an arm or leg. Battle dressings are outstanding and come in convienient sizes, just wrap and tie in place.....no tape needed.

One word of advice for all of you....protect your self!!! Carry large amounts of Latex gloves. Carry scissors to remove clothing...don't Rambo it with your pocket knife....you are just asking to exchange body fluids.

The one thing I don't have that I want is a couple of sizes of collars....but they are bulky and hard to store.

An old jeeper bud of mine use to carry an cheap pool inflatable boat ... he saw it used once when they had an accident by another group ... they inflated the boat and used it to keep the victim off the ground and dry since it had been raining all day, it also allowed them to have somewhat of a clean surface to work on him, until the help arrived.

Aside from a pretty basic kit, we also have a rope to drag the body, and a shovel to bury it.

I carry a rather large "Adventure Medical Kit" from the company named just that. I have used it as I had a friend get hit by a car while on his ATV. The biggest problem I have run accross is the stuff in the kit expiring.

I was just wondering. I'm a newbie EMT myself.

For those of you carrying one, do note that many things in the kit to expire. Some companies have Refill kits and other do not.
