I carry one....I took a Walmart kit that came in a hard plastic case and then supplemented it. I have have sutures and a staple gun in the kit....I have a fairly high pain threshold, so if I really need to stitch myself up I would, but hopefully that doesn't happen. I've had alot of stitches, but they were all done from the doc so far, but just in case I have them in my kit....

I don't know about you guys but most of the dollar stores near me carry first aid kits for a buck. they usually have an assortment of bandaids, some alcohol pads, butterfly stitches, etc. nothing serious but you could do as elkbow did and add some other stuff yourself. my wife buys them from the dollar store next to where she works in a plaza so she usually keeps one in her purse, one in her car and one at home. I may buy a couple extras next time I'm over there so I can put a couple in the storage area under my seats of the quads.

I always carry one. Wal Mart had some on clearence in the hunting section. It is a canvas softpack. It has all the usual things and it also included the following:

Whistle
Mirror
Matches
Pencil
Paper
Survival Tips

I put the following items in myself:
Waterproof matches
Magnesium Bar(for starting fires...you scrape some off and then strick)
Chapstick
Asprin
Benedryl(for allergic reactions)
Cold Pack
Nail Clippers
Eye Drops

I know this seems like alot, but it all fits in this little canvas zipper bag!!!

We got one at a local wholesale store that is amazing. It cost $20 and has more stuff than i can remember. Some of the stuff is:
Ace bandage, butterfly stiches, pepto bismol, ibuprofen, insect repellent, bug bite treatment, anti-itch cream, burn cream, a whistle, a bag or drinking water, a space blanket, tons of gauze, a wodden splint, water purifying stuff, electrolytes, antiseptic cream, and literally just about any other thing you can think of. It would be hard to make your own kit like this one for undo 75$ i'd say. Even if it is all cheap products, they're all there, and as long as they work, they're fine by me.

We got it at Sam's Club, I think. It is a green zippered pack that trifolds open. We should have bought three, it was a great deal. Next time I'm at camp I'll look at the brand on the front (I can almost see it in my mind) and see how much they cost online. If I had another, it would definitely be strapped onto my quad.

The water in the bag cracks me up, it says it is one ration for one person for one day. I know it is in there for a good reason, but if you are lost in the woods long enough for thirst to become a problem, I'm not sure if 8 ozs is gonna help you....

Super glue makes very good stitches and is much less painfull. Even real doctors are using it to close up wounds. Moisture is what makes it react and dry and blood is moisture. Used it fishing on long range boats and helped me on several occasions.

a good place to go for stuff is your army/navy surplus store.

I have 2 each inflatable arm and leg splints, 6 triangle bandages/slings, 6 ace bandages, 12 4x4 gauze pads, 4 sucking chest wound patches, 4 eye bandages, 3 different sizes of battle dressings, 4 sizes of airways as well as all the little stuff. It all fits in a 9x12 duffel that is no big deal to carry on the sportsman. Something I have found to be as necesary as superglue for stitches is liquid skin to seal scrapes from the dust and dirt of continuing the day. I also bought a dozen of those sponge/brush combos with the yellow disenfectant loaded on them to clean out wounds/hands. Unfortunately in most off-road sports the injuries tend to be more severe than your basic bandaid will handle.

The most important things to carry are knowledge (take a first aid class or 2) and some form of communications device that works where you are......if possible
