Default Should I keep this old Polaris?

I just purchased an 1998 Polaris Xpress 300. It seemed like a great deal ($850 CDN from a 65yo. man), but it isn't cool enough to have any dedicated fan sites where I can hear about common problems or easy mods. Does anyone know where I can find more info? Should I even keep it or trade up? I'm kinda new to ATVing and it looked like a safe starter quad.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated

Ask away! I saw a few guys with modified 300 Xpress in here. I'm sure someone could help you out.

If you are looking for some mods, then Rick Ritter is the guy to talk to. He knows his stuff. His site is www.rittercycle.com. Phone (618) 644-3211

Good luck. Welcome to the forums!

I'm sure this is the place where people can tell me some basic stuff:

1. Did I get a deal? It seem to be fine shape for 850CDN, which is about 700US right now

2. Do they have any kind of bad history? I'm just looking for general trail riding around the lake, and burning around the acreage after work.

3. Whats a common rookie mistake with a polaris? Is there something specific I should be focusing on as far as preventative maintanence?

4. Whats the horsepower rating? I can't find that anywhere

Thanks

i paid 1500 cad for my 400 not running and it is great for most of the riding i do exept in the deep snow .as far as the rookie thing if it has low range use it in slow working areas under 20mph u dont want to smoke the belt

for a 98' that seems like a pretty good deal as long as it runs good, you may even be able to trade it in on another used machine at your local dealer or they may give you enough for it to make you choose a new model. I don't know much about the xpress but my father in law just got a 94' 400 xplorer 4x4 with a plow and electric plow lift for $1500, seems like the smaller cc and age makes them a bit cheaper but hey if it runs then run it to the ground.
